According to my research so far, even though the pixma is lower priced with the rebate, it seems that the quality is comparable to the TS 9020. The 9020 seems to be a bit easier on ink consumption price. Does this sound like I'm on the right track with this?

That was supposed to read as Pixma 100.

Opinions like back ends are everywhere and everyone has one. Epson has been the king since the beginning of digital; if Canon just came out with one that is better, then we all win do we not?

I'm not disputing that Epson makes very good printers, but you, Sir, are expressing an opinion without any evidence to support your claim. The term "king since the beginning of digital" is meaningless unless it is defined. What metrics are being used? Quality reviews? Reliability? Market share?

Anyhow it is all a moot point since the OP appears to have decided that she wants to get a Canon printer.

Correct! I have decided on Canon for a printer. Just like Nikon vs Canon cameras. It is a matter of personal preference. No arguments needed.

No one has mentioned Epson and, frankly, it's the only brand I ever would use!! I have both a 1400 and 1900 (as well as a host of others), both wide format printers. As someone already has mentioned, ink is expensive, no matter whose you use, but, of course, printer expense and ink usage both are directly correlated to the number of prints you make. Check Craig's List and ebay. They often have used (but not abused) printers for sale at reasonable prices. And certainly, don't hesitate to "haggle" on printer prices. Often owners of the printers are pretty proud of what they want for their machines, but when you point out you could buy a refurbished one for X dollars, or that Epson no longer sells that particular model, you can get a pretty good deal. Of course, be aware of what you are buying. Ask how long the printer has been setting without use, how much ink and paper comes with it, the whole schamozzle, but also be aware you can get stung.....

I have the Epson 2550 EcoTank. It doesn't use cartridge ink, it has a tank for each of the 4 colors. The printer is more expensive ($300), but the ink is very inexpensive ($14/bottle). I didn't have any information on it prior to buying it, but it ended up being an excellent photo producer. The manufacturer said it includes 2 years worth of ink with the machine. In other words, real quantity of ink, not a partially filled sample. Take a look at it at your local Best Buy.

Thank you, but it would depend on the make and model number. I have a printer now that I am definitely not happy with and don't want to maybe end up with another one that doesn't meet my specifications.

I mentioned it earlier and the peanut gallery has been on my back end for it ever since.

I have two Canon iX6520 printers. They are 5 cartridge printers, 2 Black, 1 each Magenta, Yellow, Cyan. Canon printers regularly clean the printheads, at startup and after some printing. This uses a lot of ink. To compensate, I purchase replacement cartridges from a mail order firm in Arizona. 25 cartridges for $28.00 and they frequently offer discounts to regular customers. I have bought from them for years with no problems. I print all my own photos, up to 13" x 19". The cartridges are chipped and once in a while one doesn't work properly, a phone call and they replace it promptly. The ink does not fade and I have photos that are years old. They do not clog the printers and I believe from reading, that the use of non-OEM cartridges does not affect warranties, though many manufacturers discourage it, but at this time can't prevent it. Interestingly, I recently read that Lexmark is suing a firm who refills their cartridges and it has gone to the Supreme Court of the U.S., who is having a problem deciding the case. If they rule for Lexmark, might Ford then say one couldn't trade used Fords to anyone but Ford, etc., etc.. Anyway if any readers wish to know the name of the cartridge replacement firm I use, email me at barstand@verizon.net until April 9th. After that I will have a new address which I am not sure of. Oh, by the way, I occasionally print on some HP paper with no problems, at least not with the ink I use now.

It's a 4650. Not sure of the details as to whether the 50 pages has any reference to the types of prints as I don't use it for photos (and wouldn't, since it's only a 4 color printer) - just general printing. Check the HP site for details - there are other "plans" for more pages per month if 50 isn't enough. I would not recommend this as a photo printer.

Wolf cub, I offered references, you have offered none, and the OP has decided which brand she wants. Perhaps we should respect her wishes.

In that respect, my wishes are to hear no more arguments. Can we drop the Canon vs. Epson issue now?! Thank you.

Good advice - one for photos and one for general printing. I swore I would never buy another HP printer (ink usage and price of cartridges), but I just purchased an excellent HP wifi combination printer for ~ $100 for general printing that comes with HP's ink on demand provision. They automatically send you replacement cartridges based on how many prints/month you use - $2.95/month for 50 prints which seems like a bargain to me. And I will have to say, their SW installation is particularly painless, and all my devices, both PC and Mac/iPad can print seamlessly via wifi. I'm pleasantly surprised.
