Linda, take a look at "Light and Lighting in Digital Photography", by Micheal Freeman. It's a std. college text in many pro classes.

Linda, Busch's writing style and his layout style definitely make of a "good read". He brings the camera specific info and your photo horizon together... period.

This is a great recommendation, much better than any others I have looked at.

Good morning UHH friends. I took the plunge and ordered a Canon 7D yesterday. Now I'm wondering if anyone out there has a recommendation for a good resource book on using this camera. I'm a "book" person and certainly intend to read the manual thoroughly, but I wonder if anyone has discovered an additional resource that made the learning curve a bit easier? Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

I have found David Busch's guides to be excellent, or at least better than the rest.

His main book for the Canon EOS 7D has 475 pages and is full of useful information presented in a very easy to understand yet detailed manner with lots of illustrations. If you are a book person, this is for you. I really like it.
David Busch also has a "Compact Field Guide: for the 7D" which is good, and is primarily a distillation from his larger guide book, but not really small enough to be a real field guide (it is spiral bound).

I do NOT recommend Andy Stansfield's "Expanded Guide for the 7D." To many errors, and too much carry-over boiler plate form other Canon EOS models he has published guides for.

Hope that helps Linda.

Hi Linda, I agree on the Busch book as if it isn't in there you don't need to know about it. It's size is a bit overwhelming but by judicious use of the index you can limit your reading to the area you want to explore. I also looked at the Lowrie book and it's better than most of her's which tend to have too much rehash of her other books. This one actually works with the 7D. Have fun and keep shootin'. Mike

I bought both authors books when I bought my EOS 50D and they each offer a wealth of info for using the camera in different ways, so I feel you can't go wrong choosing either authors books.

I'll second the Magic Lantern guide. Very good books. Also, you can get one that had a DVD along with the book. The instructor on the DVD does an excellent job showing you all the bells and whistles that your camera has. Hope this helps.

Beyond the additional manual for your DSLR, there is a world of books full of classic unchanged and some forgotten techniques from older times.

Yes, I have the modern manual for my Sony and for PS, but beyond that I have a lot of books that I bought for little, 4/$12 including shipping!!! WWW.Betterworldbooks.com

Type in the search eg. Photography then sort by price. Many for $3.98 but discounted at 4/$12. You may wish to search more specifically such as landscape photography. There appears to be 190 titles under landscape photography. Here is an example of 4 - -

John Hedgecoe's Landscape Photography: A Complete Guide to Creative Ideas and Techniques
Landscape and Nature Photography by Richard Muir
Lee Frost's Personal Views: The Art of Colour Landscape Photography
Lens, Light, and Landscape: The Art and Technique of Scenic Photography by Brian Bower

Total cost by your PayPal account $12. 7-14 day delivery.. I have ordered 4 times and am very pleased.

Linda, you can get that book (david Busch) @ Barnes and Noble ON LINE for 1/2 price. I have had three Canons and have his book for each one.

Hi Linda.

your amazon cart remark is possable akey.
Do you have a local indipendant camera dealer?Go and make best friend with them, show them a few of your images, so they can critique them. They will be a lot more informative on your problems than a book.
But hey what do I know? only what works for me.

Hi, I own a 50d, and shoot often. I keep a copy of "The Missing Manual" in my bag. It is by O'Reilly Press, written for my specific camera. I also have "Missing Manual" for Photoshop Elements 8, which is my most valuable book, and gets lots of use. If you would like to check out these books, and all the other "Missing Manual" series books go to "Safari.oreilly.com" I'm sure your camera will be listed.
