The Sony FE 24-240 is a good lens. I use it often. It is my go to lens when I go to places I have not been.

Again it is "lens" and not "lense".
Singular: Lens
Plural: Lenses

"Lens" is the glass thing that focuses light.
"Lense" is a verb meaning "To make lean; to macerate".
"Lense" is an archaic variant spelling that is no longer in use.

Maybe they consider themselves "Old-school"

I have used many lenses with my Sony A7rII and have strong opinions about the 24-240..I didn't like it at all! Not sharp enough for me, very stiff zoom action, and heavy.
On the other hand I love and repeatedly use my 70-200 F4...it is a wonderful lens, sharp, fast focus, great color rendition, and relatively light.
I would suggest you also consider a wide angle prime...the 28mm 2.0 is an excellent all around lens, but I enjoy the Zeiss 35mm 2.8 even more although that is fairly close to your 50mm.
I recently sold much of my Canon gear and purchased the Zeiss 50mm 1.4....that lens is spectacular! I got mine for $1025 on Ebay ($1500 new) and consider it the best lens investment I have ever made. Finally, if you are on a budget, the Sigma 19mm can be had for around $150 and is very sharp wide angle with some distortion.
I have used many lenses with my Sony A7rII and hav... (show quote)

I vote the 70-200 .......The Sigma 19mm is a crop lens .......I think you should look at the Sigma 24 1.4 in Canon mount and get the Sigma adapter for landscape work ......

Why are you doing seniors? I use an 85mm for portraits and am about to figure out if my old filter sets (as in non-digital days filters) work with the lens.
I always had some sort of vignetting filter on my portrait lens. I think it would be nice to class up the new digital with old school stuff.

Thanks for pointing out that the Sigma 19mm is a cropped sensor lens...I use it on my A6000 and also on my A7rII which automatically adjusts the sensor size and ends up being about the same effective focal length as the FE 28mm 2.0 which costs almost three times more.

I use my A7Rii also for landscapes and I have a number of lenses. Your 50mm lens is a good one for landscapes, but if you want one of the sharpest lenses ever made, the Sony/Zeiss Sonar 55mm lens is better. Another excellent lens for landscapes is the Sony/Zeiss Tessar 16-35 f/4. The 35mm Sony/Zeiss is another nice lens for landscapes. It is small and light weight, which makes it great for a walk-around lens. For portraits my preferred lens is the Zeiss Batis 85mm. Sony's new 85mm f/1.4 Super G lens is faster and has a little better optics, but it is $1000 more, weighs almost twice as much, and is much larger. A longer zoom lens is not necessary for portraits. If you want a long zoom lens, I would consider the 70-300 mm. I had the 24-240 mm lens, and I was not crazy about it. They make a 70-200 mm Super G that has superior optics, but it is costlier and probably not as versatile as the 70-300. I would only buy E-mount lenses unless you already have A-mount lenses and a convertor to E-mount.
