Your previous answer about Apple updating its general Raw Format files is absolutely correct. Soon Apple will do so as concerns my omd 1 MkII just like Lightroom has recently done. I googled Apple raw format and received a very clear and comprehensive explanation from 'photo apps.expert/help' re Aperture.
BTW I did buy and download Lightroom today. It will be an interesting learning experience! One negative, for me, is it's library format. I much prefer my Aperture format which is set up by subject matter, then by date, and also sub files for the same principle subject. Thus l can look up our daughter' s family, pick a child, and scroll through their photos from birth onward by date and subject.
I will learn and use Lightroom for post processing.

Apple does some things right.
I switched to Adobe CC in 2014. I don't think you will be disappointed in LR. It is different, but it is an ok DAM program and and a pretty good editing program. I think Aperture was an excellent DAM program and an ok editing program. But then we had all our plug-ins. Most of which will work in LR. You can set up the file system however you like. Subject matter, date, etc, it's just that you have to do it in the computer file system rather than as a managed library.
Lots of people on UHH are experts at LR, Dngallagher for one, they will happily help with technical questions. Also check out "The Lightroom Queen". And especially anything by Juliane Kost.
