When we go on long trips or have all the children and grandchildren here, I take many photos and then create photo calendars for the next year for everyone. People keep my calendars forever. I use a Lexmark C534N color laser printer. It is inexpensive to buy and operate. There are probably even better ones out now; I have had it four years. I had an Ibico binder, but gave it to the local college. The plastic combs are only a nickel or so each and you can borrow a binder or have your local office supply bind them for you.

I put most of mine on FB for family to see overseas. When I am asked to shoot a wedding I copy the shots, only edit the ones that the couple ask me to edit and I give the disc to them to keep of their special Day, I make copies when requested. When I shoot a birth or party I make up albums online from walmart or Sams and give the albums as gifts to the family. I have just ordered two albums of a recent shoot, one baby shower and one birth, they will be given as Chrismas gifts. I never charge for any of my work. I have many shots in picture frames around my home, and one 11x14 of sunset on the beach.

After each shoot I make a screen saver series from the "best" shots and let it run on my computer. You can re-live the experience of the shoot and a couple of friends have asked for copies. Taking the good ones and turning them into books and/or albumns, and this makes for a nice collection of photographs....you name you can do it.

I got serious again a year ago. Got 4400 pictures so far and about 1 percent are decent. I just keep shooting and learning along the way. Use to think in my youth I was an Ansel Adams or a Edward Weston or Bret Weston but opped out for making a living. Post on occasion on Facebook. Working on a web site

Holy cow. Really? I've sold some photos at Shutterstock.com, but nowhere near that much.

What's your secret? What kind of photos do you submit?

One of the best ways to improve your photography skills is to enter contests...not will nilly, but local photo clubs or PSA...which is Photographic Society of America. They have contests for amateurs.
I travel quite a bit and make up shows to present to family and local churches, senior groups, etc.
I have quite a few pictures on flickr.....eleanore avery

WOW! no kidding? I have been trying to break into selling photos online but haven't liked the sites I looked at. Do they require "professional" quality or do they accept quality photos?

I have photos enlarged (usually snapfish), frame them and hang them in a local eatery for sale. Have done pretty well for a small town. Also make greeting cards by purchasing blank cards/envelopes at a craft store that have an insert for photos. I haven't bought a greeting card in years and people LOVE getting them for gifts. Good luck.

Hey, PS - Photobooks like you can make on snapfish and other photo sites make awesome gifts. Also calendars.

I've done some stock photos posted to various sites. Sell a few occasionally, made some into mouse-pads, posters, etc.

Mostly I just keep playing with Photoshop, PhotoMatrix and CombineZM learning what I can really do with them. As Benny Hill once said, "Learning all the time!"

I mostly just hoard 'em. My wife paints and uses some of them as subject matter reference. Have never had one enlarged. Don't own a printer.

I blow mine up, do some photoshop stuff and use them as cheap art work. My daughter has many of my photos throughout her house also. I have them in my office and I will give them away as gifts. When people hang my photos I find this very complimentary. You can find cheap frames and matting at Wal-mart and at the hobby stores like Michaels. There is something very gratifying to me to look up in my office and see my work. It also a way to keep my dogs and daughter at my office all day.

NO!!!
don't go to sam's club!
i took a picture there and told my lens was not functioning properly. i took the same picture to their sister store and it came out better. i took the photo back to sam's and i got a bunch of insults.
sam's club: where the customer is never right.

take the photo to a reliable place where they guarantee it for more than a hundred years.

do you want to deal with a store that sells inferior products?

I group my photos together by month and then subset them by date and/or event. I take the photos and do a write up of the adventure they document and send out an 'email update' to friends and family. I have been known to just add a few recent 'teasers' to emails before the formal email update come out. I burn CD's and give a copy to folks who were with me on my various adventures. I put some of the best on a thumb drive and bore people at work with them. I also post on various online forums, like UH and others. I have a few printed out and hanging in my house. I sometimes update my digital picture frame and I have others that show up as screen savers on my computer.

The thought of a hard drive full of unseen photos just make me nuts! Why take photos if you don't see and share them?

Here let me demonstrate by sharing a few photos of my Zipline Adventure on Monday!
