Love the "Monument". Hard to get used to saying National Park. Retired from the Marine Corps in '91 from Twentynine Palms Marine Corps Base. Owned a house on Pinon and had JTNP as our backyard. With a telescope in the backyard we could see the Mountain Sheep on the cliffs. Make sure you visit the Visitor's Center and the Oasis of Mara. Great places for shots all day and night. Loved the springs in the park with all the wild flowers down the valley heading to Indio and I-10. Do miss meeting folks up there in the summer evenings for BBQ's and kids running everywhere climbing the rocks up at Big Rocks. Wonderful vistas of the Morongo and Cachella Valley's. Sunrises and Sunsets are wonderful.

Have fun and enjoy. Living out there a total of 10 1/2 years and still was not able to see the whole "Monument".

I lived in 29 Palms for almost three years and each time I went into the park, it was something different. Relax and enjoy.

Short answer: Everything!!!
Long answer: Read all the replies. Explore. Be on the lookout for birds, reptiles, coyotes, spiders, snakes and other goodies. The sun illuminating the spines of the cactus in the Cholla garden can give your camera a workout. There are areas which attract rock climbers and you can get some awesome pics of the climbers during magic hour. The nights are dark and beautiful.

Thank you Ratta, really looking forward to it!

Oh, by the way! Be very careful of the jumping Cholla. The spines are barbed, numerous and quite painful should they 'jump' on you. And they are difficult and painful to remove. (Refer to the pic of the hand being attacked by a jumping Cholla.

I have heard that, I am hoping not to have that experience!

Some snapshots for you to get a look. Was not in the mood to shoot this day and so used my backup instead of my Nikon. Still, you can get a feel for the place. Hope your visit is profound.

Some days are like that, however these are very enjoyable Texzen....thank you!

Arch rock trail is really cool too - Arch rock is lots of fun to play with if you have an ultra wide lens :)
