Do not expect perfection here. I just used this dreary day to experiment, hand held, very low speed at times 1/2s.

First I went onto the P mode , ISO static.
Driveway

Histogram is normal since there is no real highlight other than the grey clouds.

Mixed tree sky

Notice that the histograms are similar to the previous set.

Fence... Manual Way under exposed (invariant)

Note that I am using a sledge hammer (ACR) and not taking the time to adjust as it should be.

Under exposure is -4.0
Under exposure is -4.0...

Fence... ETTR

Note that I am using a sledge hammer (ACR) and not taking the time to adjust as it should be.

When using ETTR I routinely underexpose the 'default' I explained why somewhere else... The real exposure is +3 corrected as -2

Someone can do other much more accurate tests but this does show, even imperfectly, the quality of this camera.

Ok, used about one hour now, what about the next 6 this day still has???

So what are your conclusions? To me it shows that the camera doesn't struggle to capture detail. It also did a good job of capturing the nearly white sky and the nearly black shadows in the tree/sky shot. It looks like it delivers data-rich files that can take a lot of pushing and pulling. It's hard to evaluate the noise performance from the posted images.

Just one: This camera is definitively a keeper.

As to hope... I hope the next D8xx will be from the same vein then... I'll upgrade in a flash from D800e.

If you want the NEF (raw) files, let me know I'll post them on a different site so that you can do your own test on them (ETTR and under exposed).

Thanks for the offer. The reports and tests that I've read have convinced me already.

That'd be the D5 then, unless the drop in resolution is a deal-breaker for you.
