Since it is a proposal from China, Russia, Iran, and Saudi Arabia, I'd say let them have their own closed internet and they can run it how they wish. Don't think I'd be missing any of those countries presence...

But the thing to note with this is that it is the UN pushing this and not the federal government. The US government has stated their position, they are against it 100%.

I don't trust the UN but in the back of my mind is a disturbing thought that probably someday we will have to reconcile all people under one rule....?

I don't the UN or the US government. Both are oppressive when it does to individual liberty.

As those four countries are noted for freedom of speech and general freedom for their people I cannot see the western powers allowing this to happen

I hope you are right but with the horrible track record of the US on civil liberties the last decade I wouldnt be surprised if freedom is further quashed.

Move the U.N. to China, sell the building in New York and let the Chinese govt bear the cost of the U.N.. Just don't let the GSA have the money from the sale of the building.

To quote a famous PRESIDENT, "not until they take it from my cold dead hands." Freedom is under attack.

Didn't Charlton Heston say that? I agree with you on this issue but I don't remember him getting elected PRESIDENT.

Stop and think about it, there can be only one (1) internet, not 2-3-4 or 5 only the one. It's a big world out there and I would hate to know that any of the above were suddenly gone from the internet, be a lot of wasted knowledge out there.

Oh I know and I do agree, just saying that if this is the agenda that they are going to push and try to force on the rest of the world then I personally wouldn't miss them in the big picture.

plus, there is already 2, 3, 4 or 5 internets out there. China has one, North Korea has one, well you get the picture.
