Chimping stands for chimpanzee. This came from tests wherein chimps were used in the testing of digital camera development and that is the habit they formed when they discovered the LCD on back of the camera.

Human beings look exactly like the test chimpanzees look when they use digital camera's.

I usually frequent locations where lots of photographers show up. Many of my best images are taken of people "chimping", or looking at every shot they take, afterward on the LCD.

I wish I could have gotten some shots of the chimp test subjects. I bet creating a montage of people and chimps "chimping" would be a best seller.

Perhaps, but only masochists shoot weddings, so how does most of this list pertain to those people.

Not so much a "Tip" as it is a pet peeve. When another photographer tells me I wasn't correct on my exposure, rule of thirds, lighting, etc. when they didn't know what look I was going for in the first place. I have even heard self proclaimed "Professionals" explain how various photos they were looking at were all wrong, only to let them know that they were taken by one of the all time great photographers, and still they go on about how the shot is fundamentally incorrect (it happens on this forum more times than not too). Yes, I know, if you're photographing for a client and they don't like it that's one thing. If you're shooting for your own pleasure, and another "Photographer" tells you it's wrong, it's OK to tell him/her they don't know what they're talking about.

Yes, we are many times a judgmental group, aren't we? How's that old song go? You can't please everyone, you just got to please yourself.

In all this, your artistic judgment and common sense should reign supreme ![/quote]

You make my point well for me. That's an opinion, period. Photography, like any other form of art is subjective. Personally, I would NEVER buy a Picasso, but his paintings are worth millions of $$$. I couldn't say he ever used artistic judgment or common sense, but maybe you can. Are either of us wrong, no.

Sharpness isn't overrated if you want sharp pictures.

Maybe it's the total focus on sharpness that is overrated.

I go along with this 100% as well as the statement of shooting only to please your self - now this is defiantly not true when shooting to please a customer when you are a pro.
I belonged to a group that had competition night once a month with pros for judges - seldom the same ones - we could enter the same photos when ever we wanted "till they won in a category - many were scoffed by one judge only to win under another - so take C&C as one persons opinion not carved in stone.

If you're participating in a photography forum and a brand specific question not related to your specific brand is asked, you should not feel obligated to comment simply because you think you were brilliant in buying a Nikon, hence cluttering up the forum with your irrelevant comments making it more difficult for those who are interested to get the information they're seeking, comments like, "I have no experience with Sony, but... Which would have the potential of being this forums longest thread.
