Buildings in the news: The Tribune Tower sold

This is a scan of an old (1976) Ektachrome slide. "Tribune Media inks deal to sell Tribune Tower to developer." Built in 1925, the Tribune Tower combined an eclectic combination of styles -- neo-Gothic, Art Deco, and flying buttresses at the top that you might see in European cathedrals. Among the current tenants today, is the home of CNN's Chicago bureau.

Classic building. I hope they keep it looking that way.

A great old building that was also the home of WGN-AM radio broadcasts. I lived in Chicago and the 'burbs starting about 1959 and worked in the Loop over 16 years at CNA Financial. Love the city, tho I have spent several periods living elsewhere.

I don't know what "trade elope then parcel" means. But so far, the plans are to not touch the tower building, but develop the spaces to the east that are now parking lots.

That is where the Developer throws a bone to Preservationists by preserving part of the original facade that is incorporated into the new building. Google http://www.seecalifornia.com/shopping/los-angeles-citadel-outlet.html, which used to be a Firestone tire plant before it was gutted to make way for an ever growing outlet mall.
