The Canon 5D Mark 4, supposedly will be released on August 25, 2016. Months ago, it was rumored that the $3500 price of the camera body would come with a free battery grip. Now, Canon is saying it is a single unit that will cost about $131. Still an unbelievable low price. The camera can come with a kit lens if you want to pay more. 24-105mm? It will have 30.2 megapixels. Will those who already own the 5D Mark 3, step up to the Mark 4?

mas, I think more than a few will step up. For one, I think the 5lll will still hold a decent resale value and a few will take advantage of a few used lll's on the marked to step into FF.
As for myself, I would have no use for a camera like that at this point as I already have a 7ll for action and a 5s for detail so I have no desire or use for one, but for many a few more mp's and a decent frame rate would do double duty if you need the advantage of having two cameras rolled into one. Just my opinion.

I do believe that Mk3 owners will step up if the new specs offer substantial improvements. I also believe that there are a good number of people like me who bought the Mk2 and skipped the Mk3 because I didn't feel that the Mk3 improvements were great enough at the time of intro. I since purchased a 7D2 and then the 5Ds which I love for my studio work. Now, I'm looking for that last camera body purchase before I grab my chest and fall over. I'm anxiously anticipating the Mk4 and I certainly hope your description of rumored specs proves to be accurate.

One thing I also hope is that the rumor of an updated 24-105mm, to be available at the same time, becomes a reality. In any case, I for one, will be stepping up to the Mk4 asap.

I have seriously considered a new 5D Mk4 when it it available, but beginning to think that getting a 7D Mk2 plus 100-400mm Mk2 for same money would compliment my existing 5D Mk3.

The 7D Mk2 for outside work is excellent and the 100-400mm with the crop sensor gives you very good reach. Not a bad plan since you already have the 5D Mk3. The difference in specs between your Mk3 and the Mk4 may not be great enough to make a huge difference to you. I found that to be true when considering the Mk3 over the Mk2.

Now, I plan on selling my 5D Mk2 when the Mk4 arrives. I have a Tamron 150-600mm that does a nice job and is generally quite crisp, even hand held in many cases. In the end I will have a good FF body and the 7D2 crop body, plus the FF 50mp 5Ds for specialized work. I expect to stop right there. Ok...maybe one or two more updated lenses. Then I'm done buying...honest.

"Then I am done...honest." (At least until the next GAS Attack) By the way, the Canon Battery Grip for the new camera will be the BG-E20 model. 6 more days and the curiosity will be quelled?

I would consider the Mk IV, if it's capabilities allow me to sell my 6D and 7DII. I'm not going to rush out to be the first to buy it though. I'll wait for the user reviews to come in and for the holiday season to roll around to see if any deals show up. The EF 24-105 L II that is going to be announced is interesting also. I could sell my 24-70 f/4 L and my current 24-105 f/4 L and replace them with a lens with the IQ of my 24-70 (hopefully) while still having a very handy focal range.

I agree the 24-105mm is interesting and could be a good replacement for the 24-70mm f/4.

Ah, Yes, the megapixel chase is on again. Glad I got out of that race because it's costly and never quits. This is what brought me back to film, "No upgrades, No Moh"! And I can change Mp's by simply changing film. Digitals can only go down in Mp's on some cameras. If your out of batteries your out of luck, if I'm out of batteries, "who cares" the camera works even if the built in light meter batteries die. Besides my Gossen light meter doesnt use batteries and I always carry it with me. No cards to go bad either, maybe an occasional bad roll of film but haven't had that happen in years.
So tell me again the advantage of digital! It certainly isn't image quality, film will beat it every time. No digital camera can compare in print size to an 11"x 14" negative enlarged to wall size photos. (5'x 8'). We also don't suffer from GAS as much and when we do the price is usually very low.

Not me. Especially not right away.

What makes you think $3,500 is an "unbelievable low price'? That's what the mark III was when it first came out. The battery grip is retail $131, it may cost them $25. I have the three, and until I see exactly what is in the 4, I'm hanging tough. I want the details on the sensor, more Mpix, doesn't excite me.

Do you work for Canon? :)

I was referring to the battery grip, $131, not the camera. I've been told the Mark 3 sold for $3500 when it was released. I do not work for Canon.

Of course, I stepped up from the M II to the M III, and I will do the same here!
