I have the Canon 9000 and the 100. The 100 is better for B+W prints and I think the 9000 has a slight edge over the 100 for color prints. Yes, the ink is expensive, but I think the results are worth it. Unfortunately, they use different model ink tanks. They look identical but there must be something different. I got my 100 for the rebate price 149.00.

Just bought a Canon Pixma iX6820 .prints up to 13x17. comes with 100 Matt paper
100 sheets 4x6, and a small flip through Album for $135. minus 10% from Canon.
Had the i9900 but it gave up on me. great printer.

When you do the rebate make sure you follow it word for word. Read the complete form. They can reject your claim if you don't fill it out correctly.

One may purchase a Canon Pixma Pro-100 for $149.95 after rebate! Too good to be true? Has anyone experience this deal?

It's a really good deal and an excellent printer. There are similar $250 mail-in rebates offered on the Pro-10 and Pro-1, too.

The Pro-100 uses dye based inks, with a predicted 100+ year life. The Pro-10 and Pro-1 use pigment inks that are expected to last 200+ years. (Both cases assume quality, archival paper.)

The Pro-100 comes with a set of "starter inks", like a lot of printers these days. It uses eight inks: black, two different gray, magenta, "photo" (light) magenta, cyan, "photo" (light) cyan, and yellow. A full set of all 8 inks for the Pro-100 was selling for about $120, last time I looked. I bought a set for $104 not too long ago, prices tend to fluctuate a bit (probably with the exchange rate). BTW, the Pro-10 and Pro-1 use 10 inks and 12 inks, respectively. I know one of them adds a red ink tank and I think both include at least one "clear" that's used to even up the finish on prints.

A full set of Pro-100 inks are supposed to be able to do 80 13x19 color prints.... but of course, should be able to print a lot more smaller prints and in usage varies wildly depending upon what's in the images, what type of paper you're printing on and other factors. The cost of operating the Pro-100 is actually pretty good. For comparison, an Epson R200 8.5" wide printer I've been using for proofing and catalogs has six much smaller ink tanks, a full set of which costs about $85, will make far fewer prints that are only rated for about 25 years life span even on the best paper... I also use an HP9180 13" wide format printer that uses eight archival/pigment inks, with tanks larger than the Pro-100, but costing about $40 apiece... or over $320 for the full set!

You're going to run into this with pretty much all printers... great deals buying the printer itself. But the cost of consumables.... paper and ink... are another story.

Thank you very much for your detailed input. I am still shopping around but I am leaning towards this printer.

I noticed this printer is on special sale everywhere; it looks promising but would like your input as to the photo quality. It seems to be more for business printing like posters, brochures, etc.

If you buy it, get your replacement ink here and you'll save a ton of money.

Also, Canon has a special deal now that you may want to get in on. If you buy a set of cartridges direct from Canon, you will get over $630 of free paper. The ink will cost you $135, but they send you over 200 sheets of 19x13 paper, 100 sheets of 8 1/2 x 11 paper, and bunch of 5x7 and a tone of 4x6 photo paper. Also, free shipping and it weighs a ton.

I bought a Kodak all in one printer because the ink was cheap. A crappy printer it was. Buy a good Canon Pixma Pro 100 printer and you go broke buying ink. You can't win.

I ordered mine about 7 months ago with a similar deal- $250 rebate. Printer is awesome and rebate AMEX card came several weeks later. Also included was 13x19 paper as a bonus. Be aware that the box is very heavy, and I recommend two people to move it.

How much does this printer weigh in the shipping box? Two people to move it.

On the ink topic: The Canon ink is expensive. Several Hoggers have posted that LD have proven to be very good. I just bought a 3 color set (at about half the cost of Canon) for my Canon Pixma (4 years old) and will report after I use them. I have never used non-OEM inks before but I have gotten so many good tips from UHH that I went for the LD ink. I am not sure I would use OEM ink while under the original warranty on the printer though. Perhaps a Hogger with experience can speak on that point.

Real cost to me after 2 different rebates ended up being about $59.00, plus I got a pack of 13X19 paper free which reduced the cost even more. Great printer!

About 2 weeks ago I saw that B&H had them and after rebates you'd pay $100. They don't charge tax and free shipping. I wish I'd have waited for that deal, but oh well. I'm happy with what I got.
