I agree with a lot of what you have to say, quote "Another type I don't understand is when a poster asks a question and somebody replies, I don't have any clue as to how to answer your question because I don't own that computer, camera or whatever." And thank you, that is my point, when you post something that has no value to photography, why post it, and, following this line of reasoning, why post when you get a camera, lens, whatever, what value does that have to me as a photographer, now if he had posted photo's he had taken with the D500, stated new and interesting information I could use about the camera, that would be good. But what value is there in posting topics like, 'the brown truck came today" or my favorite, "the brown truck came today to my house, I am at work and I can't work because the brown truck came to my house and all I can think about now is what the brown truck brought me, o boy." How cares. I want info I can use, you share that in a post, good for you. Lets have more of that and less brown truck reporting.

Bill, I really hate to keep going on with this. My point was, and still is, I see many things on UHH every day that I don't like. Somebody posts a photo of a bird on a feeder and he bird is barely in focus or we are looking at the back of the bird's head. I could write in being contrary and tell the person that their photo is our of focus and there is no composition etc. but WHY? Often I see bad photos on UHH and others post, Great capture, Wonderful photo, One of your best, and so on. I may think the photo sucks but why should I say anything derogatory. Many of the people here are just learning, many are elderly and to them an out of focus of the moon is quite the accomplishment. For you and me, taking a photo of the moon might be old hat or taking a photo of a bird in flight might be fairly easy but for others who are really into birding it might be pretty tough. So for them to get a nice picture of a bird in flight and post it here is an accomplishment for them. Do you see what I mean? The post, no matter how inconsequential for us is important to THEM. So I say nothing and click on the next post. There is no requirement for any of us to post something, especially a negative post.

When I saw the post "Pulled the Trigger", I knew it was "show and tell" time. I opened the post because I have the time to read and enjoy any post about someone's excitement in acquiring new gear.
Congratulations. Enjoy the 500.

Thanks Bill, as soon as I use it and get some experience I'll be more qualified to post my thoughts and display some images. Funny thing is after I posted I went to Youtube and watched 4 videos on D500 recommended settings. Like others, I never take a new camera out of the box and start shooting. I like to know as much about it as I can before heading out the door. Guess I was just excited about the new purchase and wanted to share with my fellow UHHers. I've posted my photos in the past and learned so much from everyone here. They be more coming in the next few weeks. Thanks again and, yes, it's the best when you have an understanding wife. :)

Thanks for the kind reply. I do a lot of wildlife photography while in Florida. I look forward to viewing your shots and you sharing information about the D500 and it's attributes. I am sure we will all find that very useful. Thanks again from a guy who also has an understanding wife.

Dennis, many thanks for your comments, I hope you don't mind if I once again quote you, "So I say nothing and click on the next post. There is no requirement for any of us to post something, especially a negative post". Wouldn't it be a great place if everyone would follow their own wonderful advice.

You may certainly use the comment. I have to admit to not always following my own rule but I do try each time I feel like writing anything that might be construed as demeaning I try to think about it for a few minutes to see if the post really needs my comment. I occasionally get into, The Attic. I notice that many of the posters simply refuse to listen to the other side. I appreciate you and I ended up with a pleasant conversation. I learned you are probably a pretty nice person. With a name of billnikon you must be pretty decent.

One thing to check. Apparently, early versions of the EN-EL15 battery will cause the camera to display the wrong number of shots remaining. If you have any of those batteries, Nikon will exchange them for you. The early batteries were the EN-EL15 Li-ion01. The EN-EL15 Li-ion20 is the new version. Here is info on that.

Thanks. Yes Venice is just north about an hour. Love SW Florida. Looking forward to taking the D500 out. I always spend a day or two on tutorials before I shoot. I need to get to know th camera and it needs to get to know me!! Have a great trip to Israel. If it helps, for travel I use a Think Tank. It holds two bodies, at least 3 lenses and accessories and it's on rollers and fits in overhead. TSA approved. Check them out at B&H. Good luck!

We can only bring one suitcase and one carry-on (plus, I assume, a small personal item) because the tour is limited to 16 people and it's a small bus. It's been 15 yrs since I've been overseas and this will be my longest trip (15 days). I've never used a camera backpack before, but we're going to be walking around for miles/hours at a time and when I've had both cameras or the Sony and a few lenses at once for several hours I've gotten a back/neck ache - cameras around my neck and lenses in a vest. I think, being a relatively inexperienced international traveler, I should probably over-pack, which would not allow me to carry my small arsenal. Plus it's gonna be in the 80s and maybe 90s daily (current forecast is about 10 degrees below normal (mid-upper 90s). I don't want to be weighed down with equipment. If I could take an extra check-in bag, it'd cost me an extra $100 each way...if I buy anything big over there I'll have it shipped. Someday I'd love to take a dedicated specialized photo tour somewhere.

Update: I just looked at the weather...80s in Tel Aviv, 90s in the Galilee area (north). On a You-Tube video I saw a few weeks ago, it was 104 at the Dead Sea. I don't want to be carrying along 10 extra pounds with me that I don't have to in those temps.

I am not surprised that the D500 is such a great camera and maybe, mostly better than the Canon 7DII- Nikon people have been waiting a long, L-O-N-G time for it !

After being with UHH for quite a few posts now I find it common to see members post things quite often about, The Big Brown Truck came today or The White Truck came today, delivering a new camera, lens, camera bag or something regarding cameras. As a large family involved with the world of photography most of us are happy the poster is getting something new. We are genuinely happy for them. That is a good thing. I can't help but wonder why you posted your post. With all due respect to you having a right to share your view point, you pretty much deride the gentleman for posting about the new Nikon D500 he bought and liken him to a 3rd grade student. I can understand you preferring posts giving lots of information useful to the readers, most likely technical information. What I can't understand from you and other posters on different topics is why you feel the need to say anything at all. Your post certainly offers nothing useful to anyone that I can see or relate too. At least the buyer of the D500 is offering us a share of his life, his happiness at purchasing a new camera. He does seem to post photos often enough that he will most likely post photos from the D500 as well. But that is after he receives it.

My good hearted suggestion to continue good will on the UHH forum would be if you see a post you don't agree with or like, then why not just move on to the next one to see if you like that one. Personally I see many photographs, posts, etc. that I either don't like or simply don't interest me in the slightest. I could waste a day just telling each poster why I don't like that photo or why I have no interest in them taking photos of NYC or Dallas or some place in Europe. But what a waste of my time and why spread hurtful feelings to a total stranger.

By the way I just purchased a new Leica M9 with a 28mm lens and a 50mm lens. I love the camera and lenses. Photos are everything I have wanted with sharpness normally attributed to Leica lenses along with vibrant colors. What a great purchase.
