George here, a semi-retired journalist who mostly wrote professionally, although did shoot occasionally. But, also a photo hobbyist since my first SLR, a Minolta SRT-101 in 1970. Meandered through the digital world using an Olympus E-510 for my own newspaper. Then traded it for a Canon G15, which my wife and I love. Took it to Europe in 2013 and got great photos.

I recently found I could adapt my old Minolta lenses to a Nikon D5300 so I am now thrilled and motivated to be more active in photography.

Live in the Texas Panhandle, where it’s so flat you can watch your dog run away for two weeks. Love trains, airplanes (but don’t care about cars) sailboats and landscapes.

Thanks for this forum.

Welcome to the HOG, New Guy George. Learn to see your camera settings on your computer. Post a picture and click on "store original" and ask for advise. You will learn from the best. Good luck. David

Good Morning George, and welcome to the Hog. Very interesting first post! In Canada we also have some fairly flat areas. We lived in Saskatchewan for a few years, and they say there, that if you stand on a phone book you can sees five miles further. You could probably track your dog for an extra week!
I was most interested to hear that you were able to adapt your Minolta lenses to your Nikon. I have a suitcase full of of older Minolta goodies, and a Nikon D90. The guy at my local camera shop said I was hooped, the mounts were too similar in size to adapt, and could he buy my old equipment from me? Not! I would love to hear from you, and any other Hogs out there, about how I can resurrect my old lenses, especially my bellows lens. I don't mind that the lenses probably won't 'talk' to my D90, I am fine with 'Manual' settings.
