I have a sony a6000 with 16-50 and 50-210 and am looking for something sharper. I have looked at the sony 35 1.8, the sigma 30 1.4, and the sony 18-105g. am I on the right track? I am looking at spending $500 or less. I shoot mainly outdoors in bright sunlight.

I bought the Sony without the kit lenses and instead opted for the Sony 18-105 f/4 and the Sony 35 f/1.8. That was a GREAT decision...LOVE them both. Great background blur with the 35 and flexibility with the big lens. Then for an upcoming vacation I got the Sony 10-18 f/4...another great lens. That's all the lenses I need; not to say I wouldn't WANT another!!!

You're using the Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS Lens (MFR # SELP28135G)?

Only hours ago, got delivery of the A6000 with kit, 16-50. Holy cow! What a camera! Will take some time to learn it but the low light ability is crazy good. Images are unbelievably sharp. Will buy a zoom.

Be careful! Regardless of what you read or hear from the Canikonites, that little (a6000) camera can capture your photographic heart!

Red Beard, that 16-50 has its place, especially in video recording. I have the 18 - 55 which I believe is similar. I have found with zooms, unless you spend $ thousands, they are all soft two stops on either end. My 18 - 55 sweet spot is the f8. There it actually looks good where as at wide open it is very soft. The reviews show Sony 35 and Sigmas are very sharp, although the Sony has some color fringing wide open. For myself I use a Zeiss 32 1.8 and use manual focus a lot. I got it for $500 at a B&H black Friday sale. It is also very sharp but has no in lens stabilization (oss) so the Sony 35 is better in that department if you need it and is better in low light at with lower F stops because of the oss.

Well, I don't see where anyone has mentioned it, yet, so I'll continue to promote my best "cheap" zoom for the APS-C E-mount ~ Sony FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS (MFR # SEL2870). In early 2015, I purchased a new one (not grey market) on eBay for $230.00.

DXOMark states: Although overshadowed by its more pricey, and glamorous sibling, the Zeiss 24-70mm f4 OSS, this also stabilized 28-70mm f3.5-5.6 OSS model looks like an attractive option. It’s not quite so wide of course and it’s 1 stop slower at the longer end but it’s 1/3 stop faster at the wide end and it its just $499, instead of $1,199 for the Zeiss. It has a total of 9 elements in 8 groups with one low-dispersion element and three with aspherical surfaces to reduce chromatic aberration and distortion. Also, it has dust and moisture sealing and a seven-bladed circular diaphragm for improved rendition of specular highlights and smoother transitions to out-of-focus areas. It weighs 10.41 oz (295 g) adopts a 55mm filter thread, and measures 2.85 x 3.27" (72.5 x 83mm) and is available now.

thanks for the info. I am searching for a lens that is sharper than my 2 lenses- 66-50 and 55-210. I do mostly outdoor (zoo, gardens, landscapes). I have kind of narrowed it down to the sony 18-105g. am I on the right track (I have a sony a6000)?

Red, I own an a6000 but not an 18-105 G. If "sharper" is your primary goal, and you're trying to cover as much of the 16-210mm focal length as possible, with one lens, for $500, it appears that you're on the right track.
