I am planning on purchasing the Nikon D7100 camera. There is an offer for a professional package with a variety of accessories. One of the items is Corel Digital Organization Creativity Software Kit-elite edition. Has anyone used this software to edit photos?
Thanks.

Any package offering software is bond to select a cheap thing that has very little value. The lenses and accessories are usually under par too.

Corel is a good company usually and the line up seems interesting but... Are the titles offered the current version or older that will ask for an upgrade?

I find interesting that many folks are asking about this kit (I googled it)

Paintshop pro is version 8. The kit is 7... You need to check each 'version' by yourself. Nuance omnipage is an OCR software...

Buyer beware and all that.

A "KIT" includes a number of software titles. Maybe you should list the titles that are included in your kit. You could even do a search for a specific title to see if any threads already exist.

I just did a quick look up. The suite includes: PaintShop Pro X7, AfterShot Pro 2, Nuance OmniPage 18, FileCenter Standard 7.

I use Paintshop Pro X8 (PSP) as my main enhancing software. I have AfterShot Pro 2 (RAW file converter), was not over impressed with it, so I went with the Rawtherapee (Free) route which integrates very nicely with PSP. It looks like OmniPage is OCR software and FileCenter looks like a file organizer (Windows Explorer ??)

With that said PSP and AfterShot looks to be the only camera and picture related software. You can purchase PSP X8 for under 80.

If the price for this bundle is over 80 it seems pricey. YMMV

So what are they pricing the D7100 package for and what do you get, other than the SW. (kewl name thou)

Battery chargers come with the camera. It appears they have broken into the camera package and who knows what else is missing. I would pass on it.

Good company, so there is no problem there. I quickly priced a D7100 (I own one) new 796 lens was 497 so pricing seems good.

The 32g card about 13 at Staples. Since the D7100 takes 2 cards, might want to consider a second card, but not crucial to get you started and they are pretty much a commodity.

Overall if you want a good Software pixel editor there is not a lot difference between X7 and X8. So you get a holster, card and software, which are needed. Camera should come with a battery charger, so that was included anyways.

Optic filters, let others chime in there, I don't own any so can't comment. For me having a filter protect the lens is a matter of taster versus fact. Enough said there.

Overall pricing seems fair and Adorama is a good shop

Enjoy.

Here's how I would look at this option.

You're paying $102.00 for the add-ons. Adorama generally offers a "reward" if you just buy the camera, or, in this case, camera and lens. It's usually 4%. So, if you choose to forego the package, which might have one or more items that are useful to you as well as some that aren't needed or that you wouldn't otherwise buy, you'll get (after three months, I believe) a store credit of about $44, which you could put toward a new lens or second battery or whatever you choose. (Plus, you've also got the additional $102 which you saved by not buying the package.)

Decisions, decisions...

We're always going to spend the additional money at some point anyway.

First decide what you want, then talk to a live salesman. Many times they will negotiate on the contents of the "package" or "kit". Most of the kits are filled with third-rate products that are cheap, but sometimes you can get a live salesman to make changes for what you really want. I just did that on an a6300. I got a higher quality UV filter (Hoya) rather than one of the plain glass "filters". I got a camera bag that will actually hold a real camera plus lenses plus a tablet. Got a couple other items instead of a crappy tripod and another "lens cleaner kit".

Remember, due to a loophole in the law, the manufacturers can set a fixed price for the camera, that all their dealers must charge. So the "kit" or "package" is the only way they can compete with each other--but they still make it as cheap as they can get away with. Yes there is a price-fixing law, but it only applies to the vendors, not to the manufacturer.

The Corel Digital Organization Creativity Software Kit comes bundled with both PaintShop Pro and AfterShot Pro, which together should be sufficient for most (if not all) of your editing tasks. The kit will give you all the basic tools for editing.

I agree -- the package deals tend to offer entry-level stuff, most of which you will soon upgrade anyway.
