A word of caution....and Thankfully I caught it on time, I run Win 7 on all my computers and refuse to up to Win 10 (won't go into why not, to long a story) so anyway, as everyone else I keep getting the pop up reminders to upgrade and I continue to uninstall the installer (KB3035583 update file) But unless you turn off auto update window, it will return. Well this morning I turn on my monitor, (I never shut down my network) and to my surprise Windows 10 installed itself overnight... I woke to a screen asking if I was who I am and accept or decline the install...I answered No and declined... So my machine rolled back and restored my computer back to Window 7 but took an hour....so beware, they are pushing ....BYW, there is no one that uses my computer but me and I know I didn't okay the install. There is a few articals about unauthorized upgrades, so beware if your one who doesn't want Win 10.

Happened to me on my second system also. I will be checking to see if there is any way to stop this. I purchased the computer with windows on it and don't remember authorizing Microsoft to make a operating system change without my authorization.
Is this legal?
I may just scrap my windows computers and switch over to Apple as I'm due to update my older Mac. Expensive yes but it will keep Microsoft out of my system. Yes I dislike what they do that much.

Is this legal, not that I'm aware of...but it happened.
Yeah, I was going to move to Mac also, but I would have had to install Parallels or Boot camp to run a lot of my PC based software... or run two OP's....shared resources would have bogged down the MaC Pro...I sat with a techie at Apple going through all my software...mostly Cad stuff, by the time we were done configuring a Mac pro, the tag was upwards of $12,000...for $6,000 and staying with PC, I got a desktop & a laptop, and $1,200 for a 27" NEC monitor. I was hoping a iMac would have worked, but didn't.

I agree with your cost estimates but I now hate Microsoft so much with their BS of forcing a program on our computers that we don't want and haven't asked for that I'm going to spend the money. I wouldn't mind if MS said that in a year their support for everything but W10 would be dropped etc. It's just that they are forcing/sneaking their dream child, W10, down our throats.

If they would just stop the forced sneaking it in the back door activities thing would be ok. In fact I'm checking with the attorney general of my state to see if what MS did is against the law in MN.

If you have to continue to run windows, install GDX control panel. It turns off this unwanted windows 10. Works on win 7 & 8.

MY OWN EXPERIENCE, I re-installed win 7 on a mates laptop in order to install win10, after the installation, I thought that win 10 wasn't too bad, so I thought that I would install 10 on my backup PC. In all my pc's I have several drives (8 in each) and I always disconnect added drives when I install a new operating system. Win10 was on and running ok, so I thought that I'd re-connect all the other drives
My pc(s) have 1 IDE port (2 x channels - 1 x ide hard drive, 1 x DVD reader/writer)
4 X Sata connections (on board) all occupied
4 X Sata connections (additional PCI board) 4 occupied
"C" drive is a 120Gb SSD drive
Win10 seems OK if you only have one drive, but I found that trying to connect my extra drives was a failure, and the "Microsoft rollback" feature didn't work, so yesterday I re-formatted "C" and re-installed my Win 7 professional, all perfect again now

I've just downloaded GWX Control panel, same program ????

Thanks wMongomery...
Good to know, I ll look into it, this morning I woke to what appears 10 is trying it's damdest to install. Now I can't get rid of the pop up telling me it's about to happen. Even tried deleting the associated instructional text file under windows and it won't let me, says it's open in other window, hence the installer. Plus I can't even get back far enough (2 days) to a Restore Point, apparently the installer wipes that clean. I may just end up letting it install, reformatting and re-installing 7.... it's a Raid system and may involve a bit more than just reinstalling 7/
I did however notice in advanced restore, I can reinstall 7 off original disk, but all those past updates to be re-installed to bring it up to date...

In 2010 I purchased a 27-iMac and shortly thereafter I had Staples install bootcamp and Windows 7. I think they charged me about $100. It ran flawlessly as either a pure Apple machine or as a pure Windows machine depending on what I selected at startup. In 2013 I made the mistake and installed Parallels and it totally ruined my iMac. I had to take it back to Apple and have the hard drive totally reformated. Lost a lot of files. My advice - Stay completely away from Parallels. -FiddleMaker

Running two OS's shares resources...a toll on any machine.
A lot of my software doesn't do well on MAC's or run at all...so with thousands invested in software, I stayed with PC.

Back in 2010 the company I was working for required all documents to be written using Microsoft Office and that is why I had my iMac running both OS (but not at the same time). Now that I am retired I would definitely convert back to the iMac because the iMac would run circles around this crappy Dell. But I have too much $$ tied up in this crappy Dell and I am too old. So I am stuck with the Dell.

That is funny! I guess it's not funny to you, but it is a hint of things to come.

I went through a bit of trouble gettin Win10 installed on my older Dell, but it won't go onto my newer one. I bought a new 500GB SSD, and I plan to do a clean install on that. Assuming it will work, I'll then have to put the old drive back in and de-authorize a bunch of programs and reinstall them on the new drive.
