Without a doubt you will see major difference in sharpness, speed of the AF motors in the lens and overall better build and quality. I can tell you from experience, I have two 100-300mm lenses, there is no comparison between the new 100-400mm Leica and the old 100-300mm zoom.
Thank you for the answer. I'll continue to find a way to come up with some cash! I tried trading in the GX7 and 100-300 in two places. The GX8 and 100-400 seem to have pushed the older setup to very low price levels, so that didn't help much!

The 100-300 is just not very sharp. Those who compared the 100-400 to the Oly 300 f4, say it is almost as sharp which says A LOT, so yes you would see a big difference.
Thanks. I've read some of the same comparisons. I have some shots with the 100-300 that seem sharp enough. But, I've never quite figured out how to do it with reliable repetition!

So interesting to hear your comments about not being able to figure out how to get consistency from the 100-300mm. I've felt the exact same way over the years I've shot it. I sometimes get great images where I can't believe it's a $500.00 lens and other images that I go, "ok...., well that's what I was expecting.". Very strange why it sometimes is great and most times so so.

I've found that on my 100-300 lens, it gives best results between f6.3 and f8 at focal lengths of about 125-250. Shoot it at 200mm at f8 for best results on a nice, well-lit, sunny day. I want to sell mine and get it either the Oly 300 f4 or the new 100-400 Leica/ Lumix.

I've had those suspicions that it really is a 200mm f8 lens. With a lot of us wanting to sell, I'm not sure what we'll get will make much of a dent in the 100-400 cost!

Without a doubt you won't get a lot for this lens but then none of us paid a lot for this lens. And yes, the 100-400mm is more expensive than the 100-300mm but compared to what I paid for a Nikon 600 F/4, the 100-400mm is a steal. I know these comments are relative but it really is a superb value compared to what I've spent on Nikon equipment the past 35 years.

Sell your gear on m4/3.com - both will sell and you will get street prices for them not wholesale like from the shop

Is the return to the seller about the same as on Ebay? I'm finding that street prices aren't too good for m 4/3 equipment. Too many great prices for old/new as they put out all the new stuff and rumors of new stuff.

Don't know what the e bay prices are for m4/3 - but you will get much better prices over trading in

I'm probably going to keep mine as loaner equipment for a granddaughter. It will be of more value to her than the cash will be to me.

The upside to MFT equipment is it's so cheap. the downside to MFT equipment is the resale is even cheaper. I personally look at MFT prices as a positive thing, not negative. Such is life in the world of digital photography.
