The Creation of a Wall Mural

I spotted this artist working on a wall mural in old East Dallas on my way home last night around midnight. Of course I had to stop and ask 'Issac' if I could take some photos. He had the area lit with mercury vapor arc lamps creating severe shadows. I initially tried shooting with a speed light but it created a major blue tint. I decided to try switching to my fastest lens (50mm f1.8) bumping the ISO as high as I thought I could and hoped for the best.....

I'm not a fan of photos of paintings. But, when you include the artist at work on the painting ... wow!

When it's a big wall mural ... BIG WOW!

Know what you mean.... Murals / Wall art / Graffiti are really prevalent in the area where I work. It's kinda like sunsets.... They can be really cool all by themselves but they really need an additional element to make them noteworthy. I just got lucky... right place - right time. just wish I had been able to up my shutter speed and drop my ISO.....

Thanks... Your observation is spot on... the irony wasn't lost on either of us.... Fortunately we seemed to be kindred spirits....

Appreciate the kind words.... The lighting was quite challenging. I was fortunate enough to get a few good shots....

I'm sure I will. It's actually about twice as long as the part I captured. You know, I REALLY could use a good wide angle prime..... :) :) :)

Thanks much.... This is exactly why I carry my gear with me.... Doesn't matter what kind of luck you have If you don't have your camera.

In spite of a few hindrances, you did an excellent job capturing images of the amazing artwork!
