C-R-A-Z-Y Question ....
It depends on what you want to put into learning it. You don't have to learn everything in Photoshop. Learn what you need to do what you want. I've been using it since V4 (1999), and I still don't know everything, but I use it every day to do what I need.
What better is there then to learn something new regardless of age or how long it takes, or how many times we have to re-read to comprehend what we just read 10 minutes ago. Beats sitting on a bench...GO FOR IT, absolutely.

Well, I have Lightroom and have never used it, having been a Photoshop user since it was invented and (at the time) the fastest computer to run it was an Atari (under Spectre GCR Mac Emulation.)

I will readily admit that my avatar looks much younger than I.
NO! It's not crazy for you to learn Photoshop at 75! I'm a retired educator and research notes that one should engage the mind in learning activities as much as possible to keep the mind sound and functioning properly. Look at what you've accomplished so far: You've had to learn the relationships between ISO, f/ stop, and shutter speeds. Throw in all forms of natural light, shadows, posing subjects, and looking for awesome backdrops to frame your pictures. The list of what you've learned is vast so don't sell yourself short because of age.
When I began the journey of learning Photoshop, I was overwhelmed. So, I purchased a book and it broke it down into smaller units. Like the old expression: "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time."
Get a book or a friend and begin the adventure. Everything in you life began with a first step.......

I am 76 and I use Photoshop every day. There is definitely a learning ingredients curve which at my age is a longer curve, but worth it. I will shortly before upgrading to a newer version than I am currently using. I make use of the other links e tutorials and do wouldn't
Be without it.

I purchased LR couple years ago but pretty much gave up on it - Your suggestions are great ! Never thought about the monthly thing ....
I have always found LR confusing. PS is indeed complex, but as has been said before, almost no one uses more than 10% of it. But you can get very good with the parts you need very quickly.
And when you get stuck there is lots of help available including on this forum. A Hogger bailed me out just this week with a problem I was having trouble solving on my own.
Give it a try. It is a powerful tool.
I'm searching for the Trial Version now ....
I am 76 also. Love PS and LR. I get most of my help from YouTube. (Same with woodworking, home repair etc.) Also seeing Julieanne Kost face makes me feel more invigorated.

C-R-A-Z-Y Question ....
not crazy!. i'm 70 (in a few days, but who's counting?) anyway, i find learning new software fun. i take longer than i used to, get confused more about just what functions do what, forget that neat masking trick i figured out last month. but i still find the challenge fun. i say, by all means do it! and if money is an issue. use the standalone elements, not the full pay-by-the-nose photoshop.
Thanks - Your info was helpful ....

C-R-A-Z-Y Question ....
You might consider Photoshop ELEMENTS... a much less expensive alternative (and you don't have to RENT it), and will keep you plenty busy learning. There is lots of help on the web. I'm pushing 82 and have used Elements for many years. I used to use Photoshop (full), but find Elements does all I need and then some. Good luck - you'll do fine.
