Google Photos is taking the place of Picassa, there are others but that is probably going to be the closest match as Google owns Picassa anyway.

Is it true that if you use it now, it will not be effected? I thought I read only if you want to install it after the March cut off date.

I don't know, got tired of Picassa and removed it from my machines a while back, saw the notice and went and took a quick look at Google Photos, no decision for me as I primarily use PSP and am happy with that program.

I keep Picasa Web Albums and hope they don't destroy them. Maybe they will put them in Google photos. I never actually used the Picasa program

it is true that you may still be able to use picasa, you just will not be able to upgrade, as there will be no updates, and if it ever crashes, you will not be able to recover it. make sure you are diligent about backups.

I read the same thing and do backup weekly, but I store all my albums in it, I love the simplicity of it.

Setting up your albums is probably the best feature in Picasa. I used it also several years ago to send photos before other programs come along. As for pp processing they do not come up to what I like.

I keep my photos organized in Picasa but do my work in PSE... should I moved them somewhere else?

you should always have a copy of your photos on an external drive as well as a backup. organize the folders on the external and load to PSE from their, just my opinion.

Thanks! I just watched a video on how to use the organizer in PSE and it looks really easy, just might do that!

If you like Picasa, download the file before the March deadline and save the down load.

You can then re-install it as long and many times as needed should it become corrupted.

I am also very concerned about the end of Picasa. I appreciate its ease of use in editing and post-processing prior to creating a book with Shutterfly. (Shutterfly has limited editing options.) I have thousands of photos stored in Picasa and I hope that I can continue to access and edit them. I've read many posts by the professional photographers who use this site and I know there are other editing options. But, as an amateur who loves photography, Picasa was perfect for me. I am disappointed in Google for not continuing its support.

Elyse, I also use Picasa and love it for its ease of use, but yesterday I uploaded all my photos to the Elements organizer just incase. I hope you back-up all your work on a weekly basis. I've been burned 3 times because of computer viruses and luckily was able to get back most of my work from this site!! Now I back up weekly and hope Picasa sticks around!
