Thank you. This was really just a snap shot type of shoot, so i wasnt trying to have her pose with him or anything, just wondering if i need t touch it up.

I love the subject and the angle and composition. I would have adjusted my aperture to really blur the background (bokeh) to get rid of any distraction from the mom and child. Otherwise the expression on her face and the "story" the photo tells are wonderful.

The two subjects are lovely. But I would think about the background whenever you shoot. There's a lot of competing background and it might have been better had you moved yourself and the subjects around so that the background was one flat surface -- all grass behind them, for instance. Right now you have a house, a car, a tree and some other structure competing with the subjects for attention. Sometimes just taking the same photo with an awareness of what's behind the subject can make all the difference.

Yes I agree, but as i had stated, this was really just a snap shot shoot, not portraits. What I would like to know is do i need to change the colors, contrast, etc in elements or is the pic exposed properly?

It's a lovely shot of mom and baby (I assume that's the mom) Since you have PSE I suggest you blur the background more or change the background to black and white. If it was me I would use the quick selection tool to select the mom and baby. Then go to Select on the top menu and Inverse so that the background is selected. You may find it easier to do some of the small enclosed areas of background separately and you could directly use the quick selection tool on those after you do the rest. This way you can initially select the mom and baby without worrying about getting those small areas separated. Once the rest of the background is done just deselect and do a new selection directly to each small enclosed area. Hope this helps.

It's a little bright, for me. But otherwise, the color looks great.

:XD: Easy said for me. :XD: :P

On top of the distracting background have mentioned above comments.
Use highest aperture possible when lighting situation allows. Turn on your camera flash ½ power only (ignore, some camera may not have this feature). Take 2 to 3 steps to the left. I’d position my focus more toward the toddler's face instead of your friend(love her smile, btw), unless she’s your main subject of interest. Of cause IMHO…
;-) :-P

I agree - a little fill light might pull in some of the details from her black top (sweater/blouse/shirt).

Great capture, just adjust DOF and crop the right side in closer to the subjects.

Cropping the right side in for composition might seem like the way to go, but I love the little kid's full body in this shot, in those faded jeans and little socked feet. Composition is important, but Photography is about recording history too. When that kid is 6 feet tall that mom will love looking back on that image when he was shorter than the length of her arm and she could pick him up above her head.

By cropping I didn't mean cropping of part of the babys body, just eliminating most of the distracting background on the right side.
