I want to be able to get Sharp Images and Sharp Detail on Feathers when Shooting Birds. Lens will be used on D750 and a D7100.
Saw some photos Recently by Nikon 200-500mm Posted Here of some Birds but Feathers didn't have any Detail or Sharpness. (But the guy was very proud of them). Don't know if they where Over Cropped or What was going on!
I downloaded images and I wasn't impressed.

I would like to here from Both Sides Tamron and Nikon Folks!

OK Jlgad, I'm a Tamron 150-600mm owner and really love this Lens.
Here is a handheld, 150mm, Autofocus, heavily cropped shot of the Moon & Venus
I'm posting this to show you how much you can crop with this Lens.
Also remember these are downsized to fit on UHH.

I would consider the Sigma Sport. I went through the same analysis you went through but I also included the Sigma 150-600 Contemp and Sport. I bought the Sigma Sport and more than pleased with its performance. All my bird shots taken last month in the Everglades were with that lens. Super sharp at 600MM

I have had my Sigma Sport several weeks and two hundred shots at a local bird sanctuary. I sold my Nikon 80x400 to by the 150x600 Sport because the Nikon wasn't sharp enough. I love the Sport , it focuses fast and accurate and is very sharp. It was an excellent choice.

The iguana was taken with the Nikon 200-500, handheld, sitting in a sea kayak, at 210 mm, f/8, 1/1000, ISO 1250.

The vr is the best I've ever used.

The birds were also handheld from the kayak, ISO 640, f/8, 1/500, at 500 mm. Obviously could have used more depth of field.

This image was taken on a sunny day with a Canon 60D and the Tamron 150-600 at a distance of about 60 yards with me lying on my belly hand holding the camera. I think you pay your money you take your pick and sometimes you may get a really sharp lens from any of these mentioned and sometimes you don't. What I think is important that you get the lens tuned to your camera body and if your images are soft take the lens to your dealer and get him to check the focus.

I have Nikon, Tamron and Sigma lenses that I screw-on to D7200 (won't bore you with what models min-F:stops/ranges- depends on what images one pursues at that particular moment). Am pleased with quality/purpose of all. I suggest you purchase the Tamron. Their "build quality" is OK, and prices are right. Insofar as the Nikon images you found disappointing- most probably "operator" or some such error. YOU capture the image. Contrary to many UHH opines- the lens is secondary. Just my 'umble opinion.

Here's one with that lens and a D7100...down-load this one and tell me about the feathers. Seems a tad bit sharper than the Sigma 150-500...which is an exceptional lens of its own.

Amazing! I was impressed with the detail in the beak.

Some of my shots are razor sharp, and some are just so-so. Before I spend money on gear, I read reviews and comparisons by professionals. Consider you budget and what the reviewers and comparisons tell you.

I would qualify the ability to crop with the megapixel count. I would guess you have a high megapixel count to be able to crop like that with no pixelation. The higher the megapixel number the greater the ability to crop and retain fine detail. Of course the other half of the equation is the lens. A great lens with not many megapixels in the camera could lead to unsharp images, as would plenty of megapixels but an inferior lens. But a lot of megapixels with a sharp lens is magnificent.

I have the Sigma 150-600 C and I love the Image Stabilization and sharpness I have gotten at the 600 focal length. I just got the dock for it and that can only make it better from what I have heard. I am out of town at the moment so I cannot access my photos. If you want to see some, PM me and I can post some for you towards the end of the week.
