I want either a (Tamron 150-600mm or Nikon 200-500mm) lenses.
I want to be able to get Sharp Images and Sharp Detail on Feathers when Shooting Birds. Lens will be used on D750 and a D7100.
Saw some photos Recently by Nikon 200-500mm Posted Here of some Birds but Feathers didn't have any Detail or Sharpness. (But the guy was very proud of them). Don't know if they where Over Cropped or What was going on!
I downloaded images and I wasn't impressed.
Some people seem to Love the Tamron and Others Hate It !
I would like to here from Both Sides Tamron and Nikon Folks!

Here's one with that lens and a D7100...down-load this one and tell me about the feathers. Seems a tad bit sharper than the Sigma 150-500...which is an exceptional lens of its own.

Tamron 150-600 - some do better than me, look at Regis's eagles and other birds with the Tamron. I have done better, these were what I found in a hurry.

Taken the same day right after I got the 7DII so I was still getting used to it.

#1 Egret those white feathers drive me nuts getting them
7DII, Tamron @ 500, 1/500 @ f/8.0, ISO 100
hand held at about 30 yards, breeze was blowing those fine feathers

#2 Duck to show dark feathers
7DII, Tamron @ 500, 1/500 @ f/11, ISO 400
hand held at about 25 yards, breeze blowing and duck was moving

I also use the Canon 100-400L mk I but that doesn't apply to you.

I don't have the Sigma 150-600 but I have their 150-500.
That fell into non-use when I got the Tammy 150-600.
Both of those lenses are gathering dust since I got the Nikon 200-500. Seems to me to get better detail used on a D7100, D750 or D800.

To be fair I've only had the 200-500 for a month, and weather's not cooperating so I haven't done a really thorough side by side comparison, same camera, same settings, same subject, etc.

I was concerned about it being only f/5.6 but I usually shoot at f/8 or higher anyway and it's 5.6 through the entire focal range.

Want the extra 100 mm of reach? Nikon TC-14EII stretches it from 500 to 700mm. Being f/5.6 that's the only (Nikon) TC that will work with it. With a 1.7 TC it focus searches and with a 2X it laughs at me and doesn't even try.

So I think the 200-500 is my favorite but I have not yet done a real test in real conditions.

If you don't mind it being the size and weight of a two-quart Thermos full of coffee, go for it. It's the lens bargain of the year and the vibration reduction is as good as it gets.
