You're not even American, you're just some fluffy chardonnay drinker from Canada...

I just want to understand, are you saying there was a national religion?

"Because religious belief, or non-belief, is such an important part of every person's life, freedom of religion affects every individual. State churches that use government power to support themselves and force their views on persons of other faiths undermine all our civil rights. Moreover, state support of the church tends to make the clergy unresponsive to the people and leads to corruption within religion. Erecting the "wall of separation between church and state," therefore, is absolutely essential in a free society."

Thomas Jefferson to Virginia Baptists in 1808

Outstanding. I wish everybody would read American Gospel by John Meacham to have a better understanding what freedom of religion means. Obviously you already get it.

You do understand what Thomas Jefferson was saying don't you? He was giving a reason and the reassurance of why the Government should stay out of religion.

What a lovely picture of your two daughters kissing you.
Are they Christians too?

A couple of street actresses in Vegas. And if you can't handle it too bad. Ps one daughter was a hooker and the other a decorated Army veteran and now a wife and mother in Japan. What you said shows how small minded you are. And stupid.

Yes I do and he was right, keeping the government out of religion is the right thing to do.

Freedom of religion not freedom from religion. This nation was founded on Christian principles if you would bother to read the writings of the founders. This is unique in all the world and of all nations.

I agree with your choices but somehow " fluffy chardonnay drinker" hits the mark.

I am all for keeping the Government out of religion. Nor should the two mix. I do not, can not believe that the United States will ever become a (Christian) Theocracy. On the other hand if we are over ran by an overly population of Muslims we might see a Theocracy based on Islam.

I think all agree on this point. I believe he did a fair job summarizing it in the 1st Amendment. Read it and it might surprise you.

This is their stated goal. They are demanding sharia law to supercede the Constitution in their own USA communities.

The founding fathers wanted to protect your rights of belief and your right not to believe. I am a believer but respect the rights of people who are not. I have read many history books but as I said before, American Gospel sums it up the best. Our system of government is based on many things including English common law. Madison who wrote the first draft of the constitution (with some input from many other) wanted to take the best from the lessons history offered mixed with the unique culture of North America. Many people emigrated to the the new world specifically for freedom of religion. It is in our social DNA (I stole that phrase) and it is as American as apple pie.

I agree that a Christian theocracy is not going to happen.
