I've recently acquired a new Sony A7mII and am dazzled by the images it can produce, especially in low light. I never thought I'd say this, but I am starting to consider getting rid of all my Nikon hardware, but I got Nikon down pat! That brings me to my real question...does anyone know of some good literature for the new A7mII? I've found stuff online but I'd like to have a book that is comparable to the Nikon books I've found.
Thanks a bunch in advance!

Many of us like you are in the Sony camera trip right now.
If you are a Nikon experienced photographer like i am then I would suggest you look at editorial and forum commentary with google searching. youtube has many useful videos. Most are good and honest as they can be. They cut to the chase and expose the pro's, cons and work arounds.
I have the Sony a7s and it is an amazing camera.
My bigger challenge was I have been involved in more video the last few years. Am a producer but now shooting a lot of my own run & gun stuff. I follow Philip Bloom for video and many others. If you are into stills I think you are ready to go. Good luck.

Thanks for the info! I've always been one to stick with manufacturers that specialize in just a couple products, i.e. Nikon, Apple, etc...but this camera is something else. I most likely won't get rid of my Nikon stuff, but it sure is tempting!

100% mirrorless here...don't miss the DSLR dinosaur at all. For my shooting style, it's a perfect fit.

The thing that has been hardest for me is the size. I'm a pretty tall guy with big hands so the size of the dslr is comfortable, but the travelability (if that's a word, haha) is what sold me. I can pretty much take it anywhere, but my dslr is a bit inconvenient.

As I have said elsewhere, if I were starting over, I would probably go mirroless. I think that the future is there.

Given the current state of mirrorless, I would need more in performance and lens availability to justify the pain of a switch. The A7 II is the closest so far. I just need a little more to do a switch. Maybe the A7 III or IV and a few more lenses in a good price range, possibly from Sigma.

But I think it is not too far off.

I have to have a camera plate or the additional grip to make mine fit my hands. 95% of the time its just the camera plate. Amazing what 1/4" will do for ergonomics.

This is the tired old trope that just won't die.

There are PLENTY of native lenses covering ALL of the focal lengths and price/quality points available for Sony FE mount cameras. And that is without facing the fact that nearly EVERY lens produced within the last 50 years can be used on those cameras with the appropriate adapter.

Need I remind you AGAIN that this was the reason the A7 series of cameras was created; to offer a high image quality full frame sensor on a smaller and lighter footprint to individuals vested in other manufacturers lens mounts.

I copied the ILCE-7M2 on line Sony manual about 260 pages and bound it, found it was more than enough to get me on my way to understanding the camera. The instruction manual that came with the camera is like most camera instruction manuals and falls short on the finer points. The on line ILCE-7M2 Help Guide (Web manual) link address is http://rd1.sony.net/help/ilc/1450/h_zz/ its worth looking at and getting a hard copy, price is good to 0$ + your printing costs.
Love my A7M2 as well. It will give my NEX7 a rest.

Don't give up on your Nikon gear just yet. Lens selection for the new A7mII is very limited. Only fast long lens is the 70-200 f4. This camera is great as you said in low light and the 90 micro is amazingly sharp but with limited lenses it is still off my bucket list.

Sorry. I misse dth eintroduction of the 70-200 f2.8 e mount lens. May because it does not exist. Sure you can use the 70-200 f4 e mount, except it is an f4 not f2.8. And yeah you could use an adapter on the 2.8 resulting in a lens/adapter combo weighing around 4lbs. But that kind defeats the purpose of going to the mirrorless. The 70-200 f4 is nice and only weighs 1.85 lbs. When they make a responsive 70-200 lens at f2.8 under 2lbs, I will reconsider switching.

I do think it is going to happen. And again, if I had not already invested in another system and was just starting out, I would go mirrorless. But I was talking about weighing the tradeoffs in switching. The gain in switching does not (yet) justify the pain for me.

Those adapters don't always work and don't work on larger primes. So stop spreading garbage . From slow to auto focus to no focus at all they don't all work (i.e., Tony Northrup). You don't have every lens made in the last 50 years do you? Cite some one who has every lenses and tested them all or just shut up. Where do you come up with stuff? Don't you even verify before you toss it up?

And if you put on BIG the adapter, you lost the the few ounces of any weight savings from the mirrorless and some of these adapter are at $400. You don't mention that? I doubt you even have the A7R II. I have yet to see any images from you from any camera. Why are you here???
