Adorama's return policy seems fair and reasonable to me.

But that's for shoes. Who would buy shoes on line if you had to pay return shipping.

He purchased a Sunpak Quanaray tripod from Adorama. It was on sale for $40 from $100, with free shipping. I suspect he meant Quantaray. Adorama had a Quantaray? And it was originally worth $100 (surely he jests), but someone reduced it to $40 with free shipping (hoping he'd keep it). Shipping was $17, making the price of the tripod $23. And then he sent $18 (plus the cost of gas to and from the post office) to return this impressive instrument that some poor schmuck now has to re-inspect, re-inventory and restock - and then try to resell. It's kind of like selling the last Yogo at the Porsche dealership. I wish he'd sent it to me; I have a couple of sons-in-law who would think that's just the answer to their photographic problems (when properly weighted with bags of Brown Derby or Schlitz). Heck, I'd have given him $5.50 or maybe even $6. I'll bet the OP lives in a trailer court with a pinball in the laundry, is married to his first cousin and, if he ever mows his yard, has a half-dozen pickups hidden there. Helen is wasting her time working for Adorama; she should just write a book about her experiences with these people. It would be a best seller. :| Heck, she could even cut Adorama in on the deal so they'd have enough income to stop buying Ritz Camera rejects.

Do you mean Yugo? Fine automobile, right up there in the same class as the Quantaray tripod Adorama lists for 100 USD & is selling for 50. Except that it doesn't say what it's made of, the description is pretty complete. Enough, at least, for one to have an idea as to whether or not it would suit their purpose. It weighs 6 pounds, including the head, and has a load capacity of 6 pounds. Pretty light duty, probably OK for point and shoot and mirrorless cameras.
Return policies may differ, but as long as they are clearly spelled out, and adhered to, the purchaser has no legitimate complaint.

I get the refund in two days, max.

Boy, some hogs really like to attack under any and all cases. I have returned many items on Amazon, cameras, lenses, books, lamps, children's toys. All have given me paid shipping labels to return the item, no questions asked. I am sorry profusely for not mentioned this first. You guys really like to attack don't you. Attack first, ask questions later. Glad your not in law enforcement.

I hate to hear a great company get bashed because of two bad decisions that cost someone $35. First was buying the wrong product without doing proper research. Second was in not just keeping it and making a nice Christmas present out of it. Sounds like accepting personal responsibility was more in order.

I'm sure that Adorama is still in the hole on this. All they asked for was the shipping cost, no restocking fee, no labor charges, and boxes aren't free, either.

I will pass that on. In the OP's case a 20% re-stocking fee would have saved him $9. I guess provided you never want to return a $2,000 lens you are absolutely going to come out on top.

Aside from any of this, what impresses me, is that , both Adorama and B&H monitor this forum and respond as rapidly as they do. I have used both and have only good things to say about them.

I doubt that replying to this post would serve a purpose.

Amazon is the same way. If I change my mind about an item, I have to pay the shipping to return it. It's too bad you didn't pay the full $100. The refund would have been higher.

I don't believe Amazon deducts their shipping from an item they shipped to you for free. They consider the few that they have to pay for this way like an advertising or overhead cost.

I get most things from Amazon shipped "free" due to Amazon prime membership. My wife keeps it worth our while...particularly since so far we don't pay sales tax on purchases from them.

Thrilled and delighted as we are to be compared with Amazon...............Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) is the world's largest online retailer with headquarters in Seattle.

It has separate retail websites for USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan and China. There are 12 fulfilment centers in the US; 3 in Canada; 7 across China and Japan; 12 in the UK; plus 11 across the rest of Europe.

Adorama is a family business with our office above a single store in NYC, and one warehouse in New Jersey!

Adorama doesn't have the luxury of share-holders who aren't worried whether or not the company makes a profit in the immediate future. They are in it for the long haul, and when all the independent retailers have been wiped off the map, I suspect there will be changes....

My dealing with Adorama was that they sent me in writing that they would give me "X" of dollars for my camera, be it in mint condition. After arriving in New York (going there anyway), I took it to Adorama, and just for grins walked in as if I didnt have an email from therm. They quoted me like $400 less, ( they did say it was in mint condition) when I showed them the email, they said that the guy would had sent that to me had been fired and the price no longer valid.

The return policy seems fair. I guess the OP's shock could have been the actual cost to ship a tripod. At first blush, $18 seems high to me, and if he knew he might be on the hook for 35 in case he didnt like it, then he might not have tried it out (I know I would not take that chance if i wasn't sure I didnt want the unit).

Helen, how about putting approx shipping charge in a separate tab; I don't see that too often on other sites.

I buy many things from Adorama. Over the years, I have returned two and they always stand behind their sales. I recommend them highly!
