Can't get Windows 10.

I Love Win 7, but I also love newer technology and what if can offer. I think MS got it right with Win 10. I'm sure it still will have some"kinks", but that does not dissuade me. I started with Basic & punch tapes with an old IBM in the early 70's. Learned DOS, then Win3.0, 3.1, struggled with Millennium, loved XP, Vista, ... So after that evolution, Win 10 excites but does not scare me. With the erroneous perception of "Apple's error free IOS's" people think Apple devices are different. They are not. Just think about all the "updates of software" fixes of Apple issues. There is no perfect scenario, but I do think as the evolution continues, the products get better.

Sorry to ramble on and I appreciate your suggestion about, "if it ain't broke don't fix it" , but I'll risk it because, "nothing ventured, nothing gained".

Ciao,
Mark

I refused it, and deleted the update icon on my taskbar. 100% spyware it is. :)

I think you are correct about signing the EULA. It does allow MS to invade your chats, links, ... The permission is probably well beyond people's preferences regarding their private data. However,we have been giving that permission to Google and other search engines for years. No doubt that info is profitable when sold to others.

I went through this for about a week. Every time the machine started, Win10 wanted to download, but it couldn't, and it didn't know why. Someone pointed me to a site where I can download it onto a flash drive and run the setup program from that. I started at 1:20 yesterday afternoon, and it was done by this morning. I had Acronis True Image 2011 on that machine, and I had to uninstall it and then start the setup all over again.

Luckily, I still have the link for the site where you can get the download. Choose the 32 or 64-bit version and take it from there. I installed it on a Dell XPS 8500 from 2012.

I used this route to upgrade Win7 on a Parallels 10 virtual machine running on a macbook pro. Worked Ok at beginning but virtual machine recently froze during booting. Waiting for Parallels techs to tell me how to fix it.

With this method did you have to input the License number during setup?? I only ask because, although I have a license number it is an OEM one and I heard you can't use that. You have to have one that does not have the OEM in the string of numbers. My Win 7 Laptop is having the same issue you reported with yours. Thanks

I figure I'll wait to put Win10 on my MacBook. There is now a Mac version of Quicken, so if they would make a WordPerfect for the Mac, I'd be all set.

Perhaps, your videocart has not enough memory. Must be more than 512 Mb.

On my computer, 10 goes through download and installation process but when I click on Accept button I get the message that the Modern Setup Host has stopped working. Then the computer starts the download again automatically. If the download is done through a thumb drive, is it a clean installation?

the site Jerry provided is a good site, but be careful. There is an email going around that is a fake Windows 10 upgrade link that when clicked on installs a computer ransom virus encrypts your computer and that forces you to pay them or your computer will remain encrypted an unusable. So make sure that anything you do is really through Microsoft. Again the site Jerry gave the link to is the good and true Microsoft site.

Technically, a clean install takes place when the previous version has been removed, so this would not be be clean, but it is direct, with no online connection needed, a least to get it started.

I have a 6 year old dell laptop with windows 7 home premium 64 bit and SP1 4.00 GB of ram and there are no new updates to be had. I have over 75% memory left. Can anyone please tell me why I can't get windows 10. I have searched the internet and can't get a straight answer.

I've got all the updates and I registered to get Win 10 weeks ago. Everytime I click on the icon it just tells me I'm registered. I'm running the same win 7 64 bit that you are. Maybe its just being delayed for some reason. If you get a good answer I would love to hear it.
