Does anyone have a suggestion for a safe, compact and effective lens cleaner I can put in my camera backpack?

Zeiss Lens Cleaning Wipes, you can buy them at the Walmart Optical Department, 100 wipes comes in packets of 2 to a packet, lies flat in a camera bag, costs somewhere around $3.99 per box. I've been using them for 3 years now.

I put together a little kit of a squeeze blower, microfiber cloth, anti-static brush and a couple of Zeiss lens wipes. Just my opinion---use the lens wipes (or a liquid cleaner) only as a last resort.

Have not used them yet. Really bought them for my eyeglasses as I always buy Zeiss wipes. Never used either on camera lens

If you have a Sam's club you can buy Zeiss Lens Wipes, 200 in a box, for around $10.00. You can also get a large bottle (8oz) of Zeiss Lens Fluid with a small spray bottle for a low price.

It's always a good practice to use a blower first to remove any loose grit before using the lens wipe; otherwise one risks scratching the coating on the lens.

I keep a clear glass filter on to keep the lens clean. The filter is easier and safer to clean. My cleaning cloths are extremely, many washed chunks of baby diapers or flannel pajamas. If its soft enough for a babys ass its soft enough for glass.

Dirty lens? Never allow them to get dirty, however, they do get dusty. Use of microfiber towels, and plain water (damp). Only once, having a Minolta 50/1.4 lens, original owner, bought early 70's, began having fungus. I disassemble to clean completely and as of today like new. Many sizes to choose from as well as colors. They are washable, (seperately ), and lint free. Most I have, been purchased at Walmart or Target. Since this is your question, you can also find a assortment at this site: www.microfiberwholesale.com/microfiber-towels/

Never bought here, but does look like one of interest.

Been using Zeiss wipes on both lenses and Swarovski binoculars for ages, just remember to be gentle and use a lens brush first.

I would add;
-The Zeiss wipes are wetter than most. I always use a microfiber cloth immediately following the wipe to help the lens dry evenly.
-Do NOT attempt to use the Zeiss wipes on a hot lens (been outside in the sun), it will dry too quickly and leave very tenacious spots.
