My camera is a product made with the combinations of other parts, made collectively equal camera. My camera therefore, is a product made. That product is designed to collect images by recording light by each click one takes,(by taking one's finger pressing on the shutter button). There's nothing made, but taken,(taking a camera to take photos). However, to make a photo, would to make a product. To view your images that were taken to be printed, now we have a product. That image,(photograph), was made from the result of taking something to make something else. With the combination of products made,(ink jet printer, ink, paper and computer; a product is made to be viewed by all who look apond that printed image; a photograph is made by that combination of mention products made by industrial manufacturer. That photograph was made by your camera in which you took that started the process. You shouldn't take for granted all the parts in your camera, but make a effort to do your best at taking great images to make great (printed) photograph you took with the camera of choice. Enjoy!
My camera is a product made with the combinations ... (show quote)

The camera makes the image you took. You make the photograph you have printed.

OK, But you made the decision to push the shutter. Does it make a difference under which circumstance you were in at that time. The quality of the image is not really germane to the subject Even a rotten painting is painted by the artist. Ifyou took that painting you would be accused of theft. When I did all my own B&W work in my dark room I made my own prints. But I still said that I took the photo. I am still in a quandry

"I am still in a quandary".
I guess I am too.
I was just pointing out that I got lazy and instead of "making" photographs, I set down and just pressed the shutter. No recomposing, just using the advantage of a zoom. Lots of piss poor shots because of this. I should have at least moved close enough to get a big boulder out of the way of the subject.

Do photographers take or make photographs? Painters make or paint pictures. I know this is not a life changing topic, but I'm curious.

To me, THIS kind of shoot by Joe McNally is creating a photograph.
Concepted, posed & lit all from something that didn't exist except in the mind.

Thanks GoofyNewfie. I had seen that before, but enjoyed watching it again.

First take (raw), then make. Both are very expensive operations. :D

They "take" pictures (don't have to be 'raw'), in order to "make" photographs.

Depending on situation and mood I will take snapshots or make photographs. Have known a few painters who will work on several canvases before they make the painting.

I guess it all comes down to language. we have a particularly confusing onel there are many oxymorons as well as opposite statements that mean the same thing. just a few- your house can burn down or burn up- rain can keep up or come down- When you shoot some one the gun went off-Etc etc

So true! Language is formed to fit the needs of the people using it at a certain time in history . In our world, a camera and the photographer behind the viewfinder 'makes' the picture, but to 'outside' persons, the camera 'takes' a picture because they are the ones (for portraits- and remember the 'first portraits' ( no such thing as an instant 'selfie') whose posing time 'took' over 30 minutes. So the people's perception became ' the camera 'took' the photo!

Photographers "take" an image by photographing it; the image is formed on the image sensor and recorded in some type of memory--usually a memory card placed in the camera. Many later "make" a "picture" or print an image for showing to others or viewing for their own pleasure. In general, the purposes for taking photos are to document details or record events or record interesting scenes for later display or memories.

It's "take & bake", which takes dough.
