I want to get the update but cannot find the Windows symbol that is supposed to be on the task bar. Any ideas, please.

Yes but you can register by clicking the Windows symbol and I do not have it.

If the symbol is not on your task bar it might very well be that your computer will not handle Windows 10. I have 4 computers using either Windows 8.1 or Windows 7, and all but one shows the symbol. I did research on the one that didn't and found that the screen resolution is less than the minimum required and therefore the computer will not handle Windows 10. Hence, no symbol from Microsoft.

Hello viscountdriver,
I have one PC and two laptops all running Win8.1, the symbol has appeared on two lap tops but not on the PC.
On investigation if the symbol has not appeared the problem may by that your system has not been updated.
I checked mine and it is upto date but still no symbol, that's as much I have done.
The symbol by the way looks identical to the start button and appears in task bar in the bottom right corner.
I know this is not much help but you could try downloading SP1 for 8.1 this would make sure your PC is upto date.
Cheers,
John.

I don't have that icon, either. I'm glad I don't. I'm not going to rush to get Win10.

I'm going to get it while its free. Bad things seem to happen after Microsoft stops supporting an operating system.

I recently reinstalled Win7 on my desktop because of a problem I was having with it (Windows not starting). The icon has appeared in the taskbar of the desktop. However, it has not appeared on my laptop.

Go to windows update. I had it not show up on one of my computers. I went to windows update and it had a button to reserve W10.

As I understand it, MS will provide a free copy of Win 10 "Home" version. I am currently using Win7 Pro 64. If I do the upgrade will I lose the 64 Bit capability?

Best you can do now is sign up to insure an update on or after July 29.
