My first post should have said LE-AE2 for ASP-C and yes you can buy a cheap ring with aperture, but if you're spending the money for A-mount lenses just seems you'd want full function as an option.

Given that the sony cameras show what's in focus when in manual mode, the expense of the LA4 is not worth it to me. I enjoy manual focusing whether it be with my Minolta/Sony lenses or with the old German stuff.

Yes, and it works very well. But shooting moving subjects, or getting a fast shot is often easier with autofocus.
Just personal preference. And the LA-EA2 is cheaper than the LA-EA4.

When I bought my A6000 I skipped the kit lenses and ordered it with the Sigma 30mm f/2.8 in the Sony E-mount. Although it works fine in AF mode, I prefer to shoot in manual mode, including manual focus. I have since added the 19mm and 60mm lenses, at about $200 each, and they are all sharp as a tack.

Use the adaptor-can get one for 15.00 amazon-well worth it. don't try and force lenses w/o the adaptor on! You can wreck the plate on the a 6000!

Purchased 3 non-metabones or Sony adapters. Sent first one back because of how it fit - (very tight). That was a $50 adapter. Then bought a $100 Fotodiox adapter w/ AF chip to adapt Canon lenses to E mount (a6000). AF was crap and not worth having it took so long and was inconsistent. I called factory and they suggested it may have a problem. Sent it back for an exchange. This one works much better. AF still slower with adapter, but I knew that going in. Biggest thing to check is some adapters do not support all cameras if you uses AF. I am using the Fotodiox mainly for manual focus using focus assist and peaking. really enjoying this option. In the end I felt it was a worth purchase. Thankfully B&H worked with me to get to this point. An outstanding company.

Have two fotodiox. One for Nikon F mount, and one for old olympus mount. Both work fine and worth the money.

Hi JimH123. Can this lens (mc) be mounted using a MD mount? I read about this lenses, but it's not clear to me if the MC and MD are the same adapter wise....

Didn't see where JimH123 answered you so I'll take a shot at it - the MC and MD will both fit the same adapter. The only difference between the MC and MD lenses is the MD has an extra lug on the aperture ring for the cameras that need the lug for the 'Program' mode. I have some Minolta lenses for use on my micro four thirds cameras and they take excellent pictures.

Minolta is one of the all time top lens makers.

Really high quality gear...

Yes, this is a correct answer. The same adapter can be used for MC and MD lenses. And when I buying these inexpensive adapters, I buy it to permanently leave it on the lens. I dislike fumbling around to see which lens I left the adapter on.

By the way, some of the older, MC mount Rokkors get really good marks in reviews, even better than the MD mounts. I have one MC mount Rokkor and I absolutely love that lens.

Rokkors were as good as any of the contemporary glass available at the time. The equivalent of Canon L or Nikkor glass today.

Minolta co-designed and built lenses with Zeiss and Leica. In fact, Minolta actually built lenses FOR Leica and Zeiss. The Zeiss partnership continues with Sony, which acquired Minolta in 2006.
