I just received My Canon 7D Mark II and the Firmware is 1.0.2. At the Canon website they give the current Firmware as 1.0.4. I read that the new firmware causes other problems. Should I update to the new firmware or should I wait for the next version?
Thanks for any help

General tech insight: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"
That advice is a little different when it comes to internet connected devices, since there are always vulnerabilities and people that will try to exploit them, but that is very unlikely with your camera. So do software updates on your computer, but camera firmware is less exposed.
For now, I would suggest leave it as it is, use it, and see if it works well. If so don't upgrade until you find both a reason to do so as well as confirmation "on the web" that people are not experiencing problems.
Others, of course, may disagree, but the latest thing isn't always the best thing....
Good luck
Thanks,
I think that is what I'll do until I fully understand this Camera. it is quite different then my T4I.

I have two 7D Mk II bodies and have not updated the firmware in them, there have just been way too many reports of issues with this update and it really doesn't offer much for usefull improvements. I am electing to wait.

From what I read, it was intended to fix "phantom" problems. If you arent experiencing any of those issues, I wouldnt upgrade.
That is what I'll do, I will not update until I fully understand this Camera. Need to see if I have any problems.

I assume that the later production models come with the updated version?
I updated mine and have not had any problems.
MT. Shooter my 7D markII arrived from B&H on June 26 and the firmware was 1.0.2. Was that a first version or a later version?
Jeep Daddy what version did you up date from and to what version did you up date to?

I agree with Peterff. Don't change it if the camera works fine.
I updated my 7DMKii with no problems... I can take selfies now with it

Me as well, but no selfies. :)
I had no issues with the original firmware and upgraded to the most recent version of the firmware with no issues. All is good.
