With over 260 pages this may well have already been brought up but I'm too old and OK, lazy to go through them all so here goes.
I have recently gotten interested in doing some promotional videos/slide shows involving the horses. They have been very well received and I really enjoy it but I have a new project in the works and don't know how to achieve the effects I want. I have a program that has a lot of features but since I got it online there is no manual to quickly refer to. Is there anyone here who can tutor me or is there another Forum you can direct me to in order to learn more. Here is a link to one I did last summer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DV4x2rj2JNo

Apart from the software, I could recommend using a slider (we use a 5 ft Glidetrack Hybrid).

This device will add visually to your presentation......hand holding is hard to do.............look for support, tripod is a must for me.

We use Final Cut Pro to edit and prepare our video. I highly recommend it.

I think you need more pizzazz: close-ups, front-on, only hoofs showing; portraits of some horses' faces, top participants, slo-mo, more video, less slides, etc. You also need to vary the music: different tempo somewhere along the way. With just that music, it gets boring.
I do travel videos.

One other note on voice overs. The quality will be affected by the choice of microphone. You can use the headset that your kid uses to play Halo or World of Warcraft, but the end result will be something that sounds like it was recorded over the telephone.

Voice over professionals will use a microphone designed to replicate a wider range of the human voice. Those mics can range in price from around $100 to the thousands of dollars.

A good voice over artist can work with the audio equivalent of the Holga and produce a finished voice over project, but while you may want an image to be blurred for an artist effect, the voice over has to be clearly understood from start to finish. The artistry comes from the subtle changes in emphasis in the voice of the artist.

Yes, I experienced that. It is not just a matter of "just talk into the mic"; there has to be clear enunciation, especially of the end sounds.

I use ProShow Gold. This is a great program and I use it mostly for filming our weekly Church Service. It has many special effects and works well with .mpg or MP4 files.

I, too, have used it for years, getting updates to it along the way. It is rated the best in most reviews. But I also have Adobe Premiere Pro and use it to edit the longer video clips before mixing them in with the still shots in ProShow.

For heavens sake don't play DJ on your home movies.
YouTube has a lot of potential wonderful videos were it not for the junky and loud music most kids want to add.
Not everybody is going to like your choice of music anyway if you use it.

right; the music has to be BACKGROUND, in other words, not the main focus and has to go with the flow of the video. I seldom use songs with words, only sometimes for a short segment to accentuate the story. The narration has to be distinctly heard above any background music. The right music with a style and tempo fitting the video does a lot to keep the viewer engaged, the flow of the video moving along, thus making the viewing experience more satisfying.

How large and how varied your audience? Will you caption?

The audience for my new video will be directed at the horse community, particularly the Morgan breed. There may be some minor captioning but no voice over at all. The reason is because in this case the music is an integral part of the video. Justin Morgan, the man who's name is synonymous with the breed was also a musician and song writer, a fact not all that many people are aware of. The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra has done a wonderful adaptation of one of his works (Fantasy on a Hymn if anyone wants to search on youtube you can hear it there). I am using that piece to set the stage for the images and footage of horses at liberty (no people, just running free). Ever since I first heard this music I have envisioned doing this video and I want to do it right. I want to learn how to meld a still image with a video clip, either with the still moving in over the clip or vice versa, Not just a fade in or out.
