Quick comparison Tamron vs. Sigma "C" 150-600mm's

I had a customer asking about the image quality between the Tamron 150-600mm and the newly released Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary model. Since the Sigma is only available in the Canon mount right now, I decided to mount the two competitors up and take a shot with each for a quick comparison. Subject matter is lacking in the city so I shot a transformer on a power pole a half a block away.
Images can be downloaded for direct comparison on your own. I find the sharpness quite similar. The differences to me are in the Bokeh and color rendition. The Sigma's Bokeh is softer, yet its colors are richer. At least to my eye. Feel free to leave your own impressions here. (And yes, the pole is THAT crooked!)

By the way, he just walked out of the store with the Sigma in hand after viewing these two shots on the store laptop at 300%.

I think the Sigma is a bit sharper from my viewpoint.
I started by looking at the insulator at the rusty spot, then zoomed in and out trying to find a sharp focal point.
Normally I can, but not on the Tamron shot. The same points, and particularly the insulator (L1) and rusty spot on the 50 KW can, looked sharper in the Sigma frame.
So that's my summation.

Now in all honesty, I would have to shoot both lenses for myself to really, really be sure.
But the Sig looks better in this comparison.

Ooh, A Menage De Trios?

All on Auto? Pick a certain focus point. ;)

It looks like the Tamron is a little less sharp in the corner that has all the shingles. That said both pictures look good.

Sorry, I am going to differ.
I want to say the Sigma is sharper, but its not.
I think the Tamron image is sharper in the grain in the pole and the bolt ends on the transformer bulb thingys.
At less than 100% the Sigma looks to have better bokeh in the twigs, at 100% I'm not sure i can tell.
I didn't check the focal point to see if that caused the differences.
And yes, the Tamron has zoomed a fraction closer. (looking at the width, not the wire in the corner)
EDIT:
OK - changed my mind.
I think I may have gotten mixed up with which image was which when flicking back and forth through them before.

If an off topic ? Is OK, what was the tripod/mount used.
I ask because at 500mm (sigma) I struggle to get that sharpness.

The posted images were both hand held.

I'm seeing a difference in the exposure times.
Could that make a difference? Just curious...
Other EXIF data seems to be the same in the exhibits.

But the Tamron:
Shutter Speed (Exposure Time) = 1/724.08 second

VS:

Sigma:
Shutter Speed (Exposure Time) = 1/1024 second

Both shots with same camera, same settings in Av mode. The difference in light transmission of the lens elements can change the selected shutter speed. The difference is quite minimal actually.

For the amount of money that one would need to spend to acquire either of these lens, I doubt any one would be disappointed on the strength of both these hand held shots as any difference in quality is minimal but both are exceptional for the price. I happen to have the Tammy because it was available whereas the Sigma is not yet in any volume in the UK. Will you do a comparison between the Sigma C, the Sigma S and the Tammy, when you can MT ?

I'm wondering if there will be any compatibility issues with this lens and say with the canon 7dii like the tamrons have. I was thinking about getting rid of the Tamron and going with the sigma C 150/600 to avoid any more problems with the compatibility. I do have to say though that since i did the firmware update it is much better.

Nice comparison. When the differences are this small, my choice would be determined by size, feel, and operation - and price.
