Just to prove my obsession with the automobile is firmly under control something a little different to titillate the taste buds and assault the senses.
A tiny fishing village in southern Luzon about 10 klms from where I lived until recently. If I'm honest probably not an obvious candidate for HDR so your comments will reveal if it works or should it be left as a "normal" photograph with a little bit of PP work?

3 exposures and usual bag of tricks to get end result

Well, I like the composition...as usual, but your touch with HDR is exceptional in this photo. While the scene isn't that contrasty you do bring it out to it's best. I'd say great job.

I like it. It is not overdone. Makes the composition pop.

Have to admit first try ended in the trash, it was too strong. This one I was happy with. Thank you for dropping by.

Billyspad,

You are getting better with the HDR processing and the other stuff. Thanks for leveling the horizon.

You might look a bit more closely at the light haloing around the trees, this is usually added with too much Local Tone Mapping.

Otherwise you're on the right track.

Very nice. Just the sky adjacent to the trees could use a little darkening.

I actually like the original better. Perhaps you could punch it up a little.

The part of the sky you refer to was not tone mapped at all it was brushed through with layer mask from one of the original shots! So its on the initial shot. It has to be the most stubborn halo I have ever tried to deal with. Tried shifting it using the channels pallet but its still here.
So whats your idea now Micheal G?

Im a self confessed HDR freak but tend to agree with you here. HDR software was an easy way to "punch it up" as you say but Im far from convinced it suits this image. Thats why I left it to you guys to comment.
I have worked on the original and will post that in the Photo Critique Forum in the future.

Thank you for dropping by and taking the time to comment. Much appreciated.

Billyspad,

The reason I suspected Tone Mapping is because the effect is not seen in your original image posted, only in the HDR version. Some image editors that include the HDR merge tool also have three slider adjustments; other editors do not have these and one must resort to another image editor to enhance the contrast with massive Tone Mapping.

Since you did not use Tone Mapping in the processing of this image you might try another partly cloudy sky image you have on hand and try to map that into your current background sky. Its a hard choice to make, the rest of the sky background looks great, but the light haloing around the trees is a distraction from the main point in the picture.

Did you do the HDR processing from JPEGs or from RAW/TIFF files. If that haloing is in the original JPEGs then it's an artifact of of the processing the camera does to make them. If it's in RAW originals, then your camera is producing somewhat 'cooked' RAW files. . .

Interesting, because the halo does not show up at all in the original image you posted, so it must have been introduced through some of the processing applied. As Armadillo said usually through overdoing the tone mapping.
