Yes I'm happy with it, the Retina screen is great. It's big enough for me, but I don't use it for photo editing, I use it for viewing.

I recommend you visit an Apple store and try the device. Bring some of your photos on a flash card and ask the employees to show you how to load & view photos on it, etc.

good idea, problem being we only have one apple store and I have never found them to be helpful, but Ithink that is worth a try, many thanks

Forgive me for asking as I am not much of a computer guru either but I don't see how the Internet connection has anything to do with transferring photos from the camera to the tablet. Don't you simply plug a USB cable from camera to tablet and download?

Dennis

Dennis, you load them onto a cloud and put the app on the tablet. As long as you have WiFi you good to good, anywhere you happen to be.

I found that I don't want or need an Ipad. I bought the Lenova 10 Yoga.

The battery live is off the wall, has WiFi, GPS, Blue tooth all the gooderest stuff. I can access my WD Cloud, or DropBox or Amazon Cloud. Interent. The best feature being it doesn't ring. No phone. I use an 8 dollar a month track phone.

After you take the photo, touch it once to bring it up, a drop down menu shows up, then you choose the share icon, and send it to an email account of yours. Just that easy!

How's that work when you take 500 photos?

I struggled with this for awhile till I bought a Microsoft Surface Pro. After that I sold my iPad. The Surface Pro is a tablet and and full service laptop, WITH a USB port and all. I have Photoshop and NX2 on it and on the road it fits very well in my carry on bag. On the road I carry an external portable USB 3.0 hard drive to back up my images. I highly recommend it!

Hello Froggy,
I went through this decision making process a couple of months ago.
I compared Apple I Pads and Android tablets with these considerations:
1: Price
2: Reviews
3: Screen Resolution
4: Storage (Expandable or not)
5: Screen Aspect (4:3, 16:9 or 16:10)
The ideal aspect is 4:3, which is the usual size on most cameras, the only tablet with this aspect is the Apple Ipad, there are a few others but they are hard to track down.
I rejected the Apple mainly on price and non expandable storage, this left me with several suitable Android tablets all of which seem to be 16:10 or 16:9.
I eventually whittled my choice down to 2, a Samsung 10" or an LG GPad 8.3", I chose the LG as it would fit into my camera bag and my cargo pants pocket and it also had expanable storage. LG only sell a 16gb model in the UK so you only finish up with about 10gb with the OS and the apps installed.
I use an EyeFi SD card in my camera so the photos are transferred to the Tablet on the go, incidentally GPS data also gets included into the exif.
If you haven't got a WiFi card you can still transfer your photos to a tablet via the USB port.
I considered my choice very carefully and ideally an Apple tablet would have been ideal but I rejected it on price and non expanable storage.
Let me know if you want to know more,
John.

The new Nexus 9 has a 4:3 screen aspect which as you say is good for viewing photos but not good for looking at a movie.

You might want to consider the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro. All solid state. Has ports. Has a decent size SSD. Small, light, versatile, powerful.
Regardless of which tablet you buy, you can buy external card readers which connect to a USB port and can read virtually any memory card available. Quite small and relatively inexpensive. You can also buy external DVD burners which connect to a USB port, in case you want to load programs from DVD or store data to a DVD on a machine with no internal burner. Those are also not particularly expensive.

The iPad Air 2 is $499 with 16gb, $599 with 64gb, and $699 with 128gb. I am buying the 64gb in silver. My birthday present later this month. Now how about a D750 for Christmas? Maybe next year.

For viewing photos right now the iPad air (current or 2) and the new Nexus 9 both have an excellent screen resolution of 2048 x 1536.
The Nexus has the slightly better pixel density though so the images will be just bit sharper.

So your next decision might be going with Apple or Android depending on which OS you feel more comfortable using.

You are looking at $400 or more either way.

Uploading to the Ipad is a breeze.

I take the card from my camera and insert it into a small "uploader device" you can buy from Apple for about $35. It is not much bigger than the camera card. The photos load easily, quickly, flawlessly.

I've done this for two years now to my Ipad 2 without a hitch. The photos show well on the Ipad screen.

Later I can upload the keepers to Drop Box for extra safety.

Hi guys, here I go again for help from you. As some of you know I am useless on computers and can just about find my way round them to enjoy viewing my photographs. I am now wanting to buy a tablet so that when I go on holiday or even at home to view my shots. I have installed on my laptop Adobe Elements 11 (which I still have not come to terms with) and also photomatic which I have more success with. Anyone out there have a suggestion on a suitable tablet so I can view my photos as I have noticed my childrens ipads are much clearer than my 6year old laptop screen. (which I am happy to keep ) the tablet will be very handy for travelling. I obviously need ease of use as somewhat dumb when it comes to technology . Cheers in anticipation.

Hello Froggy,
I had an iPad, but finally sold it in favor of getting back into 'my world', (Windows). I bought an inexpensive Acer tablet and have never enjoyed a tablet more! The iPad was ok for email etc. but when it came to sharing much of the software I've been accustomed to using on my home and laptop computers, it was not an option. Now, with the Acer Windows 8.1 tablet, I'm back home and happy. They range anywhere from $249.00 and up.

I purchased a Toshiba Thrive 10.1 inch tablet as it has a full size SD card slot as well as a full size (and micro) USB port and an HDMI output port. This allows me to download and view my photos from an SD card and transfer the ones I wish to keep to a flash drive inserted in the USB port. The screen resolution is very good on this tablet, but if I have a newer TV available with an HDMI port I can connect the tablet with a cable and view the photos on a large screen. The only downside for me is that I don't care much for the android operating system that the tablet uses.

Had my ipad mini retina for 2months now and am pleased with it a lot, very easy to put photos on via the sd card adaptor, very clear and sharp images, plus you can use the forward facing camera for shots straight to the pad,not quite as good as a digital camera but very good.

Froggy I have an iPad 5 and canon cameras. Love them both. I bought a connector cord that attaches to both and transfer is simple. Obviously the resolution on the iPad is better than on the camera and I can edit each night of the trip. So I suggest an iPad.
