Corn Crib

This corn crib I found in Will County in North-eastern Illinois. I am not sure when this style of crib became popular because the majority of them was strictly built mostly of wood. For those of you not familiar about these building you stored ear corn on the fall in the sides of these and through the winter the corn would dry out and you would bring in a corn sheller and a crew in late spring early summer and empty it out. When I was younger the 1st thing I was taught is to take twine or string and tie the bottom of your pant legs tight so mice could not climb up your leg when you were shelling. These building most generally had over head bins in the center that held soybeans, oats or wheat too. A part of farming era that is mostly nonexistent today
