If you look at it online the price of $1250 seems to jump out at you...it is large and blue. If you look above that (in the smaller black print) you'll see the actual price is under $1,000.

Mtnman, I'm thinking hard on the D5100 at Costco. What do you mean by "...read the fine print."?

BTW Costco also has a package on the T21i for $780. The only dif is the telephoto is 55-250. You can check it out on Costco.com if you aren't a member of a local store. You have to add it to the cart to see the price.

They show the D5100 package at $999...read the fine print.

Thank you all for the opinions and input! Unfortunately I have to choose from one of these 3 cameras. I wish I knew more about Nikon, I've never have even held a Nikon before.
I guess I'm pulling towards the Canon. I know lenses are expensive does Nikon seem to be cheaper? I'm having a hard time picking because the cameras were not my choice it was a choice given to me. So its not like I can hold and play to see which I like more.

I have the D3100 and love it. It includes a guide mode which is a built in tutorial to get you started quickly shooting great pics. Also the price is right and with 14mp. and the crystal clear 18-55mm kit lens, you will love the results. Good Luck.

I made myself nuts analyzing the same 3 cameras a year ago and ended up buying the d3100. I love my 3100, but why don't you go to a store where you can hold each camera and play with the buttons / see how the menus work. I think that's the key when you're looking at the 3 camera's you're considering. And don't bother trying that at Best Buy as they have the DSLRs mounted on huge heavy metal plates so you can't tell what the camera feels like at all and can't hold it like you would for shooting. Good luck! No matter which you choose I'm sure you'll love it.

OK, I saw it in the store at $999. and didn't see any "fine print" or rebate BS. Seems like a pretty good deal.

I'm getting a new camera, I love my rebel xti and I'm pulling towards getting the t2i. Why does the t2i seem nicer then the t3? Or is Nikon really the way to go? I'm just looking to hear some pros and cons..or whatever input I get! Thanks :)

You asked about the Canon T2i, T3 and Nikon D3100 and have received advice to buy about 4,000 other models that you didn't ask about! Of the three you DID ask about, my vote of confidence would go to the Nikon D3100! Cheers!

I guess the 60D was out of the price range? That will be your next step up from the T2i - - unless you decide to jump a step and go directly to the 7D. Of course - there's no reason you should be unhappy with the T2i - - your REAL next step will be to get some great GLASS !!
.
You are correct - the T2i is nicer than the T3 - however the T3i is a bit nicer than the T2i.
.
T2i is probably the best VALUE among the 3 you listed since it is not the bleeding edge.
.
I think you're correct in sticking with Canon as you already have lenses for the XTi that will all fit onto the T2i.

I have the D3100 and LOVE it however the buttons are small and not big hand friendly. Here is a link that might interest you.

Hello HSTEELE

I think you'll be better served by staying with Canon you already have a few lenses I guess plus the fact you already know how use a Canon the learing curv maybe not so good. But if you want to try one by all means goto a camera store and try one (Nikon) out see how it feels. Good luck.

If you are speaking about picture quality specifically, there is a link here on the forum comparing these cameras in many situations using real-world photos.

The T2i beat the Nikon in my opinion, it wasn't even close when zoomed apples to apples.

I can't speak for the features of any of them except for the T2i, and I do like my T2i.

Just a bit of advice that I'd offer is whatever you get; see if you can get a "refurbed" body only...and then buy a decent lens. True, you won't have TWO lenses right off the bat but for the same initial outlay of money (or close to it) you'll get a better lens. The kit lenses are given away for a reason; they are't HORRIBLE but they definitely aren't the cream of the crop in lenses.

T2i Refurbed body is $479.00
With a refurbed EF 28mm f/1.8 lens for 407.00 you are just under 900.00 and you have a nice camera and a lens you won't be getting rid of in 6 months or a year wanting something better.

There is a HUGE difference between the kit 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 and the EF 28mm f/1.8...that is one amazingly sweet lens and you can take photos in low light that are so sharp you could cut your finger on them.

You could also get a 50mm f/1.8 nifty fifty for 100.00 that's tack sharp also.

If I had to do it all over...I wouldn't have wasted money on the kit lenses and did it the way I described above.
