If you read the forum topic, it also covers PP and how to.

In this case it is how to balance Levels, exposure and tones in order to achieve a better result.

You now have three versions of the same image, the original that has lost it's nap and two corrections using two different approach. One goes toward more vibrancy at the expense of white details and the other that is measured and tries to respect the original. Both are good examples yet, there is a much better way: To separate the colorful elements using a precise mask that would allow a grater control as to where the changes are made and how.

On the mask question one can push the difficulty into four masks. The first one includes only the sky, the second the snow foreground, the third is composed of all colored elements and the last made of the dirty snow. Each is then processed differently using layers.

Another method, probably more elegant, consist of using four layers, process them individually and paint them back together by using a selection brush and opacity.

Here we turn toward expert use of sophisticated software and time. So the quick and dirty fix is offered as a fast solution.

I might just give it a go, just for fun as I never done that before. Now I need to reinstall Photoshop.

First try at masking, I am not posting the 'original' as I will have to refine everything first... Like doing all the masks!!!

This the true original. The image position is different as I use the IMG tag to avoid duplicate postings of the same image on UHH.

Masked only the center racers. Note the white patch... Ugly error of masking but I am learning!

After masking all the 'important elements' I decided against it as the right side of the picture became distracting.

This will show the weakness of my masking...

I added a slight level adjustment. Nothing to brag home about.
