If you like color you'll go crazy
We went a few months back - if you have the time, and splurge money, take the Red Rock Helicopter excursion to the Grand Canyon. Flew in a small plane to the Hulapi reservation, helicopter to the bottom of the canyon, then a token boat ride on the river. Helicopter back to the top, and take the buses to a couple of overlooks. One is the Sky Walk, which is an extra cost, and they won't let you take your camera on it. But, 30 feet away you get pretty similar views; just not straight down.

We went out that way last Sept. and I can assure you, ANYWHERE you go you will be faced with gorgeous scenic views. (Bring your wallet! We found Sedona rather pricey.) We did make it to Red Rock Nat. Forest which was beautiful, lots of birds and red rocks. Also, take a drive down 179 for other fantastic views and photo ops. Have a Great Time!

Sedona
You cannot go wrong with any picture you take there... it is nature at it's best. The jeep ride was awesome but I wouldn't recommend it for anyone with a back problem... I have one but took it anyway and paid for it later, oxycodone didn't help much... beautiful country
Be sure to drive Oak Creek Canyon. Such a surprise to see this beautiful, wooded creek area in the dry desert.
My neck of the woods! Everyone is right to say photo ops are everywhere. Be sure to see: Bell Rock, Cathedral Rock Crossing. Go on the Pink Jeep Tours, go up to the airport for some nice views (good luck finding a vortex), go to the visitor center to get info on hikes (the hike to the Devils Bridge is a good one... The last half mile is a climb up hill/stairs; well worth it). Go to the Enchantment Resort for a drink at the end of the day; have breakfast one morning at L'Auberge de Sedona & sit creek side. And always have your camera wih you... Sedona will not disappoint! A day trip to Jerome, best for photography early in the morning... Then have lunch at the Haunted Hamburger. While you're out there see Montezumas Castle (not far off I-17). The Verde Valley Train ride is a full day... may even be an overnight in Clarkdale (depends). Well worth it. Have a great time!
Oh yes...Red is the new Black. The roads, ground under your feet. After awhile your feet. They even make shirts to sell with the dirt washed into them.
And while you are in Jerome, go to Prescott for lunch at the brewery. Had the BEST fish and chips there.
Thanks for all the great ideas!.not sure how much of it I will be able to fit in with the rest of the family along but I am looking forward to trying

To maximize the dramatic colors, plan on taking your pictures at sunrise and sunset. Also the night sky is clear and photogenic ...
You'll have fun any time anywhere in a Sedona!
All of the above are great ideas but also include the ruins at Tuzigoot National Monument. It is a great area for photo opportunities. BEWARE of the time shares in the area - from one who knows!
