I recently decided to conduct a very exhaustive and scientific study to determine if Nikon or Canon is the preferred camera. In order to conduct the study my wife and I went on a ten-day cruise to Bermuda and I counted the number of Canon camera users versus the number of Nikon camera users. I counted only DSLR cameras since a number of the females with smaller cameras refused to let me close enough to determine their camera type or anything else for that matter. My wife said she understood why they refused. I accused her of being a sexists and she accused me of being a dirty old man, which is where we left that issue.
For the Nikon users I am happy to report that Nikon by a margin of four to one beat out Canon. Ok I discounted thirty or so Canon users who were technically illiterate and thus had purchased the camera without knowing what they were buying. I still do not understand how the ship’s captain could have owned a Canon and still be permitted to captain the ship. Well maybe because the captain was a female and did not know any better. My wife pointed out that at one port all the other ships were parked with the pointy end of the ship (a nautical term) facing into the dock while our captain had the roundy end of the ship (another nautical term) pointed into the dock. I asked our cabin steward why we had backed in and he said, “Oh she’s just showing off,” which is typical of a Canon camera owner.
I had planned to take some pictures to post here, but since I have only had my Nikon 5200 for a little over two months, I have not figured out how to turn it on. I am just about to the point of getting out the owner’s manual but not quite there yet. My wife said if I have not figured the camera out by the time we head to the Vietnam Helicopter Pilot’s reunion she is going to start using it for a door stop. Typical of a woman who uses an almost eight year old Canon Sure Shot and thinks she is a real photographer. Once I get my Nikon turned on I’ll show her what a real camera will do.

Watch any major sporting event, and you see the ubiquitous white Canon L series lenses everywhere! I've used Canon equipment since 1976 and I have no complaints.

Nope, it takes a Nikon to secure our more expensive toys...had it been a Canon, she'd be holding on to a PFD...

Most gals do have "roundy ends", maybe the captain prefers presenting the back end

As with a Canon, why not flaunt it when you have perfection 8-)

BTW, that is a Canon 5D Mark III, a great model .... he he

That shot was probably taken with a Nikon

Well I for one look at this as a complete Big Bang Theory. (scientific NOT tv series). I started out in the mid '90's with pre MP Kodak cameras. Less than one megapixel. Evolved to next gen. Kodak going from Floppy to early compact flash media. Two more "Advanced" Kodaks followed, that led into the first Sony that was a whopping 2MP in 2000.It also used a unique media, pre-memory stick that was a mini-cdr. Still have some. Gave this camera to my younger son who used it for another 3 years. At this point the evolutionary direction formed at a Camera Store in Syracuse NY. I wanted more MP and better zoom. I tried both Nikon and Canon. Could have gone either way. It was 2003 and a lot of new cameras were flooding the market. $3000 plus for a DSLR was out of the question then. This is now called a bridge camera. It really came down to the features I liked best. Canon G3 went home. Used it for 7 years. Bought Canon Rebel XS, then moved up to T1i, and finally to 60D. Here is where most people will go when upgrading to DSLR like I did. Brand loyalty. Since mfgrs. will always compete and compare equipment like bodies lenses and Flash units, there is not barely the proverbial hair's difference between them.

It is long overdue that somebody provides a camera review that we can use, not to buy equipment, but instead to laugh with when the subject comes up!
Very Funny!
I'd love to see National Geographic give all their photographers a Barbie Dream Camera and an assignment to fill a monthly issue with pictures taken by nothing but... The most important part of the best camera in the world is 12 inches behind the camera!
Take that Hasselblad!

Loved this article. A good laugh makes a day.

and yes, there are more people running Windows by Microsoft than any other operating system... and we all know that Windows is pretty much the worst operating system on the planet... I am grateful you pointed out that Nikon is used by more folks than Canon... maybe you could do an exhaustive study on whether most Nikon users are also Windows users... I being a dullard use Canon exclusively for some damn reason... it's sweet here in the minority my friend...

because you know quality and you know that for action sports, there is no substitute for Canon... period.
