opening up the aperture would give you poor depth of field, not good DOF.
Lucian,
When I used the term "good" I meant shallow...something not possible on a very bright day...
No way to get an ISO 100 f/1.8 shot on a very bright day...the shutter speed goes through the roof and exceeds what the camera can do.
Is that more clear?

yep that will do it. most times when good depth oh field is used it is meant to mean a larger area in focus, so that people won't have a prob with critical focussing. So, I thought it best to clarify.
C'mon! Price drop to 50.00 shipped!
What size lens is this for?
It was a 52mm and it's sold.

I bought the variable but it did not work too well at the higher settings. The image had patches of darker and lighter areas, since it is basically 2 polarisers fitted together and turn in opposing directions to get the effect.
You bought the light craft brand one?

I wonder if there were something wrong with it? I haven't heard any negative stories about them, bad reviews indicating this problem either.
Maybe you just got a bad copy.
