Epson R3880 with EFI (RIP software)

I already have a Epson 2880 & a 3880 but need another one for my office...(3880) Epson is offering rebates this month and I'd like to take advantage of it...

Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Large-Format Inkjet Printer, this month with a $200 rebate (Price after rebate:$939.00 after rebate)

VS

Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Color Inkjet Printer Designer Edition with a $250 rebate (Price after rebate: $1,049.00)

Question: Is EFI eXpress (RIP software) worth the extra $110? I'm wondering also if it's a trial offer and or will I have to pay the $159 for the license... it's not stated anywhere if it's a trial version of a licensed version of the software.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards it being it's only a buckten dif. my biggest concern is if I'm going to add to my list of programs that I need to pay a fee each and every year...ya know like the banks and CC's and Adobe and Autodesk and on and on and on...

Unless you have the need for speed, save your $ and put it into nice paper stock . . . or ink :) I love the 3880 , though the ink $$ is daunting.

I have had many epsons. The large 4000 with many inks.
I have a 2880 now. And have a large aculaser for business printing still running fine. I bought the 850 all in one year ago and it went crazy colors etc they sent a new one. Sent that one back. On third now they don't refund.
All this said the newer Epson's use ink so quickly I think that is Epson's strategy to be profitable. I almost never print photos don't have time. Use the 2880 top print layouts web designs and graphics once in a while. The 850 all-in-one was using ink so fast that it was frustrating. I bought a cheap on sale 1/2 price WF-2540 to combat ink use. It is already out of ink first round. I know carts they send in box dont have full ink load. My big 4000 and the aculaser would give great output and the ink seemed to last. It is possible you could spend hundreds maybe thousands of dollars a year if you printed photos. My 2880 is always running out of one color.

If you use this printer for work, the RIP software is definitely worth that small extra fee. Using it just for occasional printing photos for display, you don't need it!

Thanks, nahh speed it's a concern...I love um both (2880 & 3880) and you are right, ink costs are up there...worse than gas prices per gallon, must be a connection there somewhere... lets see, 1 gal/80 ml (50 refills +- at $50 ea= $2,500 per gallon of ink) if my math is correct :)...decisions, decisions...I hate non-life threatening decisions.

Unfortunately your right about the ink usage...I too have a WF (the WF-7520) for general printing... I watched a video of the ink waste wells found inside of printers...such waste, the biggest waste, nozzle clearing/cleaning... eats up more ink than printing. There is a work around for that though.

It will be used for work, cover presentations for Architectural Drawings, photos, before photos within after renderings. (before & after photos) I like the ability to be able to print a pic inside a pic for this, (if I'm reading the software's capabilities correctly) I now do pic in pic in PS...this (RIP) may be a time save...
