GAS: - seems I've also succumbed to the malady.

Hi dear UHH guys & gals. I've previously read posts on UHH about members "suffering" from GAS - and had to smile when reading them. Seems like I've also been bitten by the bug. Less than 2 weeks ago I sold my Nikon D3200 to my daughter as she wanted to upgrade a bit (from her D3000); - I'd only had it for 7 months! . . . . so just this last week have ordered a Nikon D7100 with 18 - 140mm Lens from B & H Photo Video. - Cant wait to get my hands on it. (Will STILL keep my D5100 though; - have had that one for 22 months).

Boy, can I ever empathize. When I first found out about the affliction referred to as GAS here on the UHH, i said it could NEVER, EVER! happen to me. Let me tell you how long "never" actually is about 2 1/2 weeks. Din't take me long. So far, I have been able to resist acting and have not actually purchased the 800e I am now lusting after. My d5200 is only about a year old. I hope I can hold out as long as you did.

Danny, looks like you're taking all the right medications!
But, you're having some side effects! IMO only, get rid of that 5100 before its completely worthless. Use the money to get a lens, or other accessory that is usefull. I'll suggest a flash, remote trigger or ND filter/s, but get rid of the old anchor!!

The condition usually gets worse with time. I have bought 3 lenses in the last 2 months. Getting harder & harder to hide the symptoms from my significant other. But at least this type of GAS makes you smile (or if you're like me, both types make you smile).

I couldn't agree more with SharpShooter.

Oh Crap! A Nikon guy agreeing with a Canon guy. The world is ending for sure.

Welcome to the G.A.S. Clinic. Now repeat after me,
1.) I need a(insert device here.)
2.) I could really use a(insert device here.)
and now the one that covers everything
3.) My friends on UHH recommend I get a(insert device here.)

Here's a few to get you going, Lenses, Speedlight, Tripod, Ball-Head, Memory, Batteries, Remote release, PP Software, to name a few.
Good Luck, Don

I agree. About three people here, including most notably MtnMan, prefer the D5x00 series to the D7x00. Everyone else things the D7100 is a significantly better camera, and you may never use the D5100 again. :-)

G.A.S. is especially easy to deal with when there's someone to give the hand-me-downs!

I too have G.A.S. unfortunately I have a blockage caused by having a laptop that needs replacing first. Unless someone can tell me how to upgrade the graphics card drivers for a Toshiba laptop.

Yeah, I had the 3200, needed AEB desperately and had to ubgrade after 6 months to the 5200, now want the autofocus adjustment in camera on the 7100...but the articuated screen of the 5200 that pops out and rotates is so amazingly useful (and rare, many/most high end cameras don't have it for twice the bucks and more). I can't give it up. It is an unavoidable addiction to someone who wants the unusual angle and doesn't have a contortionist's body joints.

I agree about the articulated screen, it's great for when your creaky old human body can't quite get the camera's body to where it needs to be! I vote for putting it on higher end cameras as well.

I did it years ago for my laptop and recorded the process.
