Photoshop Elemets 10 Problem

Several places in Photoshop Elements suggest that if you hit the space bar you get the hand tool and can move stuff. One case is to move the whole picture. The second one and more important to me is after you've drawn a circle with the marquee select tool.

In both cases I do get the hand but it won't move.

Is there some setting or key combination I missed?

I would try Scott Kelby's website. He seems to be very knowledgable on PSE10. I have bought his book recently but have not done much with it yet.

Thanks, I will.

I have his book on Elements 10 and love it. It was the breakthrough for me.

Alas like my other book and the help etc. they all tell me that it should work to hold the space bar and click. I get the hand that way but it won't move.

I have PSE9 but I suspect PSE10 is the same for this function. I think what you might be doing is holding the space bar down whereas you should just tap and release it after you have made your marquee selection.
Give that a try my friend it works for me.

Thank you! That indeed solves the marquee problem.

I still have the general selection tool problem. While using another tool you are supposed to be able to press and hold the space bar and get the hand (that happens) and then move the whole image. That isn't happening for me.

But if I click on the hand tool then the image will move.

Not sure what the problem is. I use PE10 and when I hold down the space bar and the left mouse button the hand appears and I can drag the picture with the mouse.

Yes, that is what it is supposed to do. Mine is balking at doing that.

Not to insult anyone's intelligence, but make sure you have "zoomed" the image to bigger than the canvas size prior to trying to move it with the hand. The feature won't work on mine without having done so.

Once you have drawn the circle just left click, hold and drag. Don't use the space bar.

After you make a selection and you have the ant trail then left click on the move tool you can then use the left mouse button to move the selection.

Thanks, I have that working now. It just takes a quick press of the space bar to activate.

The one that isn't working is to press the space bar and get the hand to move the picture. I get the hand but it won't move.

If I click on the hand in the toolbar it works fine.

I suspect I have messed up a preference somewhere.

Thanks...it is indeed a great site. It is now in my faves.

While it didn't solve my stuck hand problem it did give me an alternative I didn't know about before: push the "h" key to get the hand. That moves you to the hand tool and works fine also.

But my instance still doesn't work when I press the spacebar to get the hand. I get the hand...it just won't move.

Hey MtnMan,
Are you continually holding the space bar down while you're dragging the hand with the mouse? And are you zoomed in on the picture so there is room to drag it?
