I have a Nikon 18-200mm VR lens that clicks about 3 times and also moves the image in the view finder when it does this. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what did you do to fix it. local repair shop wants $250.00 to fix it.

Hello Joe and welcome to the UHH. Turn your VR off and see if the "clicking" turns off...that's a normal sound when the lens VR clicks in.

It still does it when the VR is turned off. I have cleaned the contacts and tried it on another camera and it still does it?

Thanks for the suggestion

Ouch!!!...sounds like it's going to have to be worked on. What do the photos look like with all this clicking and moving?

They look sharp, but I need to be sure the VR is working because I'm old and a little shaky. my back up Nikon does not have the VR feature or the focal length

This is a failure in the image stabilizer. It could be either a damaged ribbon cable that connects the stabilizer unit to the main circuit board or it could be a defective stabilizer.

Hi. My name is Rick. I’m the owner and lead technician at Discount Camera Repair and a member in good standing here at the UHH. I’ve been doing repairs for other members here at greatly discounted rates and would be glad to help.

I'd be more than happy to repair the lens for you and keep the cost as low as possible. If you’re interested, please respond by private message or simply reply to this post.

Thanks,
But I think I will just buy a new lens for what it will cost to repair it

The cost to repair your lens could be much less than the cost of replacement. $100 vs. $500-$700.

Rick, my lens does exactly the same thing. What do you think it will take to fix?

A quick check of m. y resources shows the stabilizer is no longer available for this lens so it's probably no longer a viable repair.

new problem
Tamron SP 200-500mm F/5.6 Model 31A Telephoto Zoom Lens with Nikon AIS Mount

It has a it has haze on the first element beneath the front element. The other elements are all fine.
What would be the repair cost for this lens?

Joe (not so cool). What's wrong here? You are using an 8 year old thread to ask a question that is identical to a topic you created on June 19th. Are you expecting different advice???

That's probably a good idea. There really are no parts left for that lens anymore.

no I'm asking on a differnt lens repair Tamron. because it has haze on the first element beneath the front element. The other elements are all fine. I don't have tools to open it up to clean it. I can't guarantee that it will clean right off, but it well may.
