Mine is whoever said, "A good photograph requires knowing where to stand." I might add that a good photograph also requires knowing when to stand there. Was this Ansel Adams? I couldn't find a web reference for the original comment.

If you like confusing you'll love my work! I see you are from Vegas. In Caesars Forum is the shop of a landscape photographer. An Australian. Peter Lik, perhaps? I was impressed with his photography and the way he presents it. Some outstanding work, at least from my point of view.

I agree with you about Peter Lik. I have been to Vegas and seen his work there and also enjoyed the series he had on the travel channel a few years ago, where they traveled to locations and someone filmed him taking his famous shots.

For wildlife if you wait for perfect light your subject is probably gone or dead.

Many greats have been mentioned but so far, six more must be named:
Eugene Atget
Walker Evans
Gary Winogrand
Robert Adams
Stephen Shore
And my mentor, Bob Thall
All great and very influential.

Don't know much about his ides, but his photography shows insight, pathos, and the soul of a true artist. I'm referring to Gordon Parks.

How about Henri Cartier-Bresson or Robert Capa. Capa captured the tragedy of war like few others.

that is like asking what is your favorite pie . you will get answers from
apple to zukinnie pie . yet there is thousands of cooks who can make the pie you call your favorite . I don't have any favorite any thing . the pic. and pie and any thing else is made by many others that I consider good , are made by many others including photos . and there all good some better than others but by no means a favorite any thing .

Ansel Adams - there are so many tools available now to alter a photograph many of the photographs should be called computergraphs!

No matter who I pick I'd question my choice. Certainly Ansel Adams is right there but the first one that popped to mind was A. Aubrey Bodine, a Baltimore Sun photographer that because he is regional many may have missed.

Hi Jim, I'm with you on the choices. A year or so back, the Ward Museum featured a gallery full of Bodine's works. He chronicled much of "life" along the Chesapeake Bay and his photos of the construction of the first span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge (completed 1952) were exceptional. I have never seen any color photos of his, so I assume he dealt only in B&W.

Mangelsen is indeed my favorite and to be able to take what he loves to do and turn it into what he has, awesome.
