I've had a refurbished Do800 that I bought from Camera Camera about a year and a half ago. I have been very happy with it.

Take a raw picture and upload it directly from the card or camera. Some JPEGS won't work when imported from a editing program.

The normal warranty is 90 days mfg but some sellers will give you 6 or 12 months by them. I think Calumet is one of them

Not very likely as they've gone out of business

Be careful of shutter count mine had 5300

5300 is nothing though. I'm sure that camera body is rated at 200k or more.

B&H has refurb D800 for $2399.95. Anyone gone this route? Suggestions? Appreciate advice before I shell out that much money.

Check Cameta Camera on LI, NY. I have gotten two referbs from them, a D300s, and a D800. I have been well pleased. Nikon sells referbs directly from their Nikon store and the ones Cameta sells are also from Nikon. The difference is that Nikon gives a 90 day warranty while Cameta will extend that to 1 year at no additional charge. I believe you will find the cost almost the same between Nikon, Cameta, B&H, and Adorama. Check to see if B&H will extend the warranty to a year like Cameta does.

When Nikon refurbs a camera I think the shutter count is zeroed. In any case, I just bought a D800 on Saturday from Hunt's camera for $2200. Shutter count was 1.

Would they change it to zero if the shutter mech. was replaced?

I purchased my EOS 5D Mark II as a factory rehab directly from Cannon.
6 1/2 years ago bought a factory rehabed MacBook Pro 17 directly from the factory -- haven't had a problem yet. A factory rehab I consider to be better than a straight production line unit because it is gone over COMPLETELY -- you know its faultless. There is an exception to every rule they say, but I haven't been hit with it re factory rehabs. I believe its a safe and practical way to buy pricey technical product.

I'm probably in the minority here but I stay away from refurbished. One never knows what went wrong with it originally or how much stress it suffered. Not all parts are replaced and some may have shortened life.

Sometimes only the collateral damage is replaced and the root cause is over looked only to fail at a later time.

I have seen this in industry, especially in electronics. Cameras are no different than other product and perhaps much more complicated.

Just my opinion based on many years in engineering and quality assurance.

I'm probably in the minority here but I stay away ... (show quote)

the only thing that engineering and quality assurance can be sure of .is the product will fail as the warrenty runs out . every thing is made to fail . why doesent a fridge last as long as they did in the fifties. thirty years or more was no problem . same as stoves , dish washers , dryers, even $1500 lazy boys recliners , every thing is made to fail just after the warranties are gone .
that's the only way they can assure they will always have buyers . go to a store where they sell this stuff 90 percent of the buyers are repeat buesness .
not newly weds buying there first appliance . these things go through strict testing and if any last to many hours more than they should . they won't stop
looking for the offending part that refuses to die . and replace it with one that
does . and that is the truth

Bought a D800 refurb this past Christmas from B&H. Grilled the salesman on the shutter count and history of the camera. He said the camera was lightly used in shows.
That they were all low shutter count cameras that were like new. He was right. When I got the camera it looked like no one had used it. The shutter count was less than a 100.
Love it. Hope this helps. B&H is great to work with.
