Studying up on mirror less cameras and considering Sony a7. I see some of you users have them and would appreciate some honest pros and cons on the a7. Like to shoot landscapes, nature, etc. Not much on portraits. I would appreciate any and all input even if it is other brands as well. I joined this site a couple of weeks ago when I came a crossed it by accident. I found this site is full of very knowledgeable people who can probably keep me from making a mistake in a purchase such as this. I currently use a Canon 7D and a SX50HS, and I'm of parting with them for something lighter.
Thanks in advance for all your help.

If we limit the choices to the top end mirrorless cameras, you basically have to decide between the A7/r, Fuji XT-1, Olympus EM1, Sony A6000 (or wait a bit longer for the A7000). They're all great cameras. I stayed with olympus due to the large variety of lens selection.

I have an A7 (had it for the last year and a half) and I wouldn't part with it for anything. It has all of the functions (and more) that I need and want. I have been involved with photography most of my 81 years and have owned more cameras than I care to count and the A 7 will be the last one.

Norm, the A7 produces some of the BEST images of ANY digital camera.

http://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Ratings

(click "Direct access to DxOMARK" in the upper right corner)

It will be EXCELLENT for your intended type of photography, and with adaptors, you will be able to use all your EXISTING lenses.

Image quality will be EXCELLENT! And the camera is VERY easy to use.

But just remember; this is NOT a sports or action shooter.

Thanks for the input. I appreciate your information, since I am void of most things involved with photography, even though I have been working at it for about 7 years now.

One problem with this camera is the current FE lens availability. I've got the 35 and 55. The kit lens I would stay away from. Otherwise it's an expensive system from a lens point of view. They have a total of 15 lenses coming by 2015. There is a 70-200 CZ out this month for 1500$. Sure it's good for legacy lens but I've decided I have no time for fooling around anymore. Right now I just use it with a 35 for street photography.

^^^Norm, with adaptors you can put almost ANY lens on your camera.

With the LA-E4 from Sony you can use any A mount from Sony, Carl Zeiss, or Minolta and it will be FULLY functional on the A7, giving you access to almost 200 lenses, some of them as good as any others in the industry.

So while the selection of FE lenses is currently limited, the A7/A7R was designed SPECIFICALLY for people like you norm with lenses on other camera platforms; all you need is the correct adaptor to use them on the A7/A7R and you're ready to bang away!

Where would I buy these adaptors specifically for Canon & Tamron lens?

You'd buy them based on the mount... if you had Tamron lenses for the Canon EF/EF-S mount, then all you would need would be an adaptor for Canon EF/EF-S mounts.

Metabones is the company with the largest variety of adaptors for the Sony E/FE mount specification:

http://www.metabones.com/products/?c=e-mount

There are other products available as well....

You are bing a very big help. I appreciate it so much. I do still have a lot of research ahead of me but I think I am pretty set on the Sony mirror less cameras. Not sure yet of the a7 or a7R unit. I just got off of Sony web site and was looking at the 70 - 200 lens and the 55mm lens. I think it might be the only 2 I need to start with.

^^^Norm most of the folk here on UHH are happy to share experiences and give advice. It's our pleasure.

You could buy those two lenses OR you could buy an adaptor and use your existing lenses until you are ready to buy FE mount lenses.

Keep in mind that ANY lens with Carl Zeiss on it is going to be VERY high quality optics... but you'll pay a pretty penny for them. The image quality WILL be top notch though... EXCELLENT to say the least.

The A7R has the second best image quality of ANY camera on the market... and that by scoring just ONE point behind the leader. It was named Popular Photography's "2013 Camera of The Year" with good cause and for a VERY good reason. It give you a full frame sensor in one of the smallest (and lightest) bodies, with image quality that only one other camera can top.

A VERY good camera indeed. ;)

So what IS the top camera if I may ask? My 7D I have been very pleased but just looking for something that shoots high quality pics, and is lighter. The 7D is kind of hard on the neck after awhile, and my SX50 is ok but it lacks in quality on some shots as compared to the 7D. I think the Sony a7 or a7r would fit my needs good.
